Whitey and management are far apart on a new contract. Phantom(Whitey's big brother) says they are hoping they can come to a deal. I hadn't seen the paper when I heard about it so safe to say I was a bit suprised to hear this this morning...
This is from J Freedom Du lac's Media Savy column this morning.
Rise (and fall): The original Rise Guys are now down to one. Sports 1140 (KHTK AM) announced late Monday that contract negotiations have unraveled beyond the point of no return with Rise Guys ringleader Whitey Gleason. Thus, Gleason is off the station's morning show. "I enjoyed working with Whitey; I wish him well," says Doug Harvill, market manager for KHTK's corporate parent, Infinity Broadcasting. The Phantom is the lone original Rise Guy left, as Justin Case was fired by KHTK in October 2003 and subsequently replaced by Kevin Radich. Gleason was unavailable for comment.

I think Koz will be filling in the rest of the week.
Im still a bit stunned I have to say. Whitey does pee me off at times but ovrall ive always liked him. Won't be the same without him. His impressions and song parodies were amazing. His knowledge with music and sports is unbelievable.

Agreed. Whitey was the ultimate Webber killer, hiding behind a mask of objectivity. But he was very entertaining. Hope they can work it out. And I hope beyond hope that they do not put Montemayor in that slot.

JC was canned because The Program Director Mike Remy thought that(and JC admitted candidly) that he nothing about sports. So they decided to go with somebody who knew alot more about Sports.
JC is now working construction down in Stockton.

Yes, I admit I have been one to complain, especially recently about the Rise guys and especially Whitey, but its all part of the gimmick. You can't listen to the Rise Guys and not get riled up, its part of their show.
I was shocked to hear about this when I turned on the radio this morning. Yes, Whitey gets on my nerves a lot, but he is "The Rise Guys." Yes, a lot of what he says is as crazy as some things that are said on this forum and I do believe most of the time he said them just stir the pot, but the guy knows his stuff and he isn't one to back down from what he said and deny it when people ask him or challenge him about, which is a lot more than you can say about others on that station. I am not one to call into a radio station, never have really, but I have had several e-mail conversations-ok borderline arguments-over the years. I hope it does all work out, otherwise it won't be the same.
P.S. If they put Monty on there, I WILL NEVER LISTEN AGAIN!

My thoughts are let him go and kick Phantom out the door with him.
I know its part of there game to get everyone riled up but thats just not good radio. As I continue to say listen to 1050 or 680 in the morning. Way more informative and just better shows.
We need a morning show that talks about sports, life and everything else. Also a show that is OBJECTIVE. Not a crew that starts crap just to get people to call the show.
I said in another post before I even knew this that KOZ/Ross/Rat for the morning show.
Now the Monty issue, Monty is a complete fool but!!!!! The Insiders on Saturday if you listen is actually a great show IMO. The other 2 bash him the entire time and people call in to bash him

I haven't heard much on the radio, but when I was @ the Kings game last night, they had a stand setup in the parking lot at Arco and a guy on a micorphone was asking people to come by and sign papers for Whitey Gleason, so he can stay on the air.

Koz this morning said they will make an announcement on tomorrows show as to the direction of the morning show.
He speculated possible syndication ala Howard Stern or Imus. IF that was the case then I would sign a petition to keep Whitey here. I have a feeling Whitey will be there on Monday, Phantom didn't sound upset or down today, they just made jokes about the situation.
IMO no matter who is the morning show it has to stay sports related.

it won't be anything like stern as there is already a local FM station that is carrying that show, they are so proud of it they named the whole damn station after him. like ryle, i think its joking & having fun.

Before the Rise Guys started at KHTK(Oct 31 1999) I believe it was Imus that was on KHTK. Or was it Stern? Im not sure.

Well I don't so much mind considering the other options/senarios for the morning show.
I actually used to love the Rise Guys but they went away from what they used to do into more of a morning whine fest. Sounded like Whitey was gonna try and change some things up a bit so lets see.

Hmm so based on what I heard yesterday.... Whitey as looking at an offer in Boston but the presure put on Infinity(KHTK's owners) Broadcasting by the fans was pretty big.
