Didn't we bring him up earlier this year? He always seemed sort of slow footed to me; I don't see him running the floor. And not a great rebounder for his size, IIRC.
I think at the moment, Skal has the more complete game and NBA experience. I love Jones's size, energy, and raw talent, but he is still a work in progress. He has a nice shot so he can stretch the floor. I’m curious why the kings thought they would be better with him over IJ though?

I think the key is the rawness of Jones. Sometimes it looks like the game is moving too fast and he’s slow to react. No sense in pushing him. We are win now. No time and not enough practices to develop right now.
Also Skal has much better size than Jones.
IJ got a lot of run early. Not sure how many games he has left before needing a full contract.
Only 3 games left? whoah!Jones has played 25 games, so he has 25 games left. Since we're at game 80, we will not need to give him a full contract this year unless we want to use him in the playoffs.

I guess the flip side is Skal hasn’t played an NBA game since 2020 and Jones has already given us valuable minutes this season. Happy for Skal though, hoping he makes the most of his opportunity.
This probably is more just rewarding a guy that’s been helping us mentor developmental players in Stockton for the last couple years but hopefully we see some of that skillset that had Skal the number one prospect in the nation at one point.
Skal was a G-League All-Star, after all. He averages 64.7% from the field and 41.7% from three. I have no idea how well those numbers will translate to the big club. Any ideas?
I have a feeling this is a "break glass in case of emergency" signing. Nice to see, though.
It's wild to me that Skal was our third pick of the draft, and the first round, that year.
It's also wild that he has vastly outperformed the other two guys we picked in front of him combined.
That's kind of what was trying to imply by my comment. I just thought I'd be able to do it without actually having to state it...It's also wild that he has vastly outperformed the other two guys we picked in front of him combined.
