The Official All Decade Team..

Here's the official team:

Sue Bird
Tamika Catchings
Cynthia Cooper
Yolanda Griffith
Lauren Jackson
Lisa Leslie
Katie Smith
Dawn Staley
Sheryl Swoopes
Tina Thompson

There are no words.

SUE BIRD?!?! You have got to be kidding me. No way does she belong on this list. And an Honorable Mention to Diana Taurasi before Natalie Williams or Nykesha Sales?!

Ticha and Ruthie are Honorable Mentions along with DT, Holdsclaw, and T-Spoon.

Ticha Penechiero should be in that Top Ten. She revolutionized the position of point guard like Magic Johnson (DASH, FLASH and some times CASH). Plus she is the all time leader in assist and has led her team to a WNBA Title

I do agree with Sue Bird being on the list. She has led Seattle to a WNBA Championship, that is good enough for me, but Ticha should be there right besides her.

CONGRADULATIONS TO YOLANDA GRIFFITH!!!

Well, like All-Star teams, the voters have their say on popularity, if nothing else.

Whateva

Congrats to Yolanda Griffith...

She Earned her spot... That is for sure.

Sue Bird???? Well I guess so. Winning a championship gives her some creditibility, But I agree with Mama On this One.
Having DT in the same catagory With Ruthie and Ticha and Spoon in only 2 years of service to the league just waters Down the award.

Congrats to All the Honorees

I have to agree that Bird and Taurasi should not be in the mix at this point. I just don't think they've played long enough to have a big impact on the WNBA.

Congrats to Yolanda! And congrats to Ruthie and Ticha on their honeorable mentions. The Monarchs with 3 in the top 15 is pretty sweet.

Penicheiro isn't as heavily marketed as Bird and doesn't score. I'm sure both factors hurt her chances. I don't think Bird deserved a spot over her, but I'm not surprised she made it on the team.

In my opinion the only player who should have any consideration over Penicheiro is Weatherspoon.

Major props to Yolanda Griffith...I would have loved to see Ruthie make it, however...it's great she & Ticha get an honorable mention...

What a thrill it's gonna be to see them all come out at this years All-Star game!

I had Ticha on my All-Decade team over Bird, too. Bird can be on the second All-Decade team, and she will deserve it if she continues to play at the same level.

But to give only an Honorable Mention to Ticha is a shame.

Congrats to Yo! I'm also good with the Big Three from Houston.

I don't mind Sue OR Dawn being on the list, but not both, especially ahead of Ticha and TSpoon. I just don't see how they can leave the all-time assist leader off the list, considering she has a championship ahead of Dawn and "senority" ahead of Sue. Oh well...

Do the female athletes have agents? Maybe some promoted more heavily,,,Like the part that is due to votes, maybe they voted heavily, or campaigned to get their person listed who only had a few years on the WNBA, or...We don't know whether the ones who handled this event are any better than the referees the WNBA has compared to 'real' referees.

Definitely. TP is equivalent in every aspect to Bird. The only differences are, well, TP is the league-leader in assists, has played 8 years as opposed to Bird's 4, and doesnt put up the huge numbers. Sue? Boo.
On another note, T-Spoon also deserves to be on the All-Decade team even though she hasn't won a title or hell, even made baskets. Her shot against Houston pretty much defines her and the league!
In addition, as it was mentioned before, Taurasi and her 2-year "experience" shouldn't have been chosen over rooted veterans like Mwadi Mabika, Becky Hammon, Nykesha Sales and Tamecka Dixon - it really diminishes the idea of an All-Decade team.
On a lighter note, I'm glad to see that Ruthie is still remembered and appreciated. =)

I'm not so much stuck on Sue Bird's inclusion - it's six of one half dozen of the other in comparing her to Ticha. I also agree with the notion that if TSpoon is not on either the first team or honorable mention - neither Dawn Staley nor Sue Bird should be either. I'm trying to understand Dawn's contributions to this league other than her deciding to come over from the ABL and even with the coming over from the ABL thing, hasn't Ticha still out produced her in the time she's been here on both offensive and defensive stats?

Dawn is unquestionably a Naismith Hall of Famer and every other hall of famer there can be but c'mon now...she's not first team all WNBA decade.

As far as TSpoon goes, if her most notable contribution is "The Shot" then I have no problem with her not making either list. That's only a slightly better reason than any reason given for Taurasi making an all decade honorable mention slot. I mean the Spoon shot didn't even with them a title. Until Ticha came along, Spoon was the league's best playmakers and definitely the league's best defensive point guard. But Ticha I think has cemented herself in the annals of both designations.
