Mine are:

1. Modest Mouse--Good News for People Who Love Bad News
2. De La Soul--The Grind Date
3. Sonic Youth--Sonic Nurse
4. Franz Ferdinand--Franz Ferdinand
5. Interpol--Antics

What be yours?

Edit* Changed the title to include movies, books, whatever your fancy. Thanks for the suggestion, L.A. Brian.

I suppose one might be considered to be out of touch if one doesn't know which column is the artist and which is the album?

One might. :)

But look at it this way -- you're sure to be right about #4. :)

My personal favorite that I actually heard "the entire album" was Beastie Boys - To the 5 Boroughs...well I'd say that and Outkast - Speakerbox/Love Below.

Yet one more out of touch old fart... guess I'll dig out my old 33 1/3 of Big Pink by the Band and pretend I am quant, rather than hopelessly out of touch. But I bet those albums sound really great on an I Pod... whatever tha means.

This forum has never struck me to be any sort of alt-rock haven (of which four of those five albums mentioned by AceKing could be classified under that genre). Not saying that's bad or good-- it just is.

1. RJD2 - Since We Last Spoke (think moody instrumental hip-hop a la DJ Shadow)
2. Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
3. Elliott Smith - From a Basement on the Hill
4. The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight
5. Stereolab - Margerine Eclipse

Perhaps this thread could be turned into a general "Best of 2004" thread that included movies, books, etc.?

Actually, I liked both of those albums too. I forgot about the Bboys, but Outkast's album was actually from 2003. It just got a lot of attention this year because of the grammys. Well, that and Big Boi's single was probably the most popular song of the first 1/2 of 2004.

Speakerboxx/The Love Below is just a great piece of work.

Nice thought, Steph... AKS changed his first post, I changed the title of the thread. Nothing like teamwork... Perhaps we get it from being Kings fans. ;)

ALBUMS - I bought no NEW releases this year. I did, however, reacquire some of my all-time favorites. The artists were the Eagles, Ten Years After, Rod Stewart and the Moody Blues.

MOVIES
The Return of the King
Under the Tuscan Sun
The Last Samurai
Miracle
Secret Window

LIFE EVENTS
Birth of the Little Princess - Emily Kristine
Seeing my first playoff game ever - THANK YOU, KINGSGURL!!!

WORDS OF WISDOM
Never eat anything greenish-brown in your refrigerator if it was originally red
Family comes first AND Friends are family you choose for yourself
Don't wait to tell someone how you feel; tomorrow may never come

WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE KINGS
Illegitimi Non Carborundum
DE-FENSE!!!
Watching you play still takes my breath away

And I still don't know which ones are the artists and which are the albums in the first post... ;)

Heh, aw...sorry. The first category is the artist's name, the second is the album title.

Fave 2004 movies:

1. Farenheight 9/11 (thx for reminding me, serbqueen)
2. Closer (completely dark, yet refreshingly honest movie)
3. Super Size Me
4. Spiderman 2
5. Garden State

Books

1. Winning Low Limit Hold 'Em by Lee Jones
2. America The Book--A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon Stewart
3. When the Women Come Out to Dance by Elmore Leonard

Events
Being a part of a winning election campaign

But I didn't see The Incredibles, I <3 Huckabees, or Sideways. I hear those are all great movies too.
