The lost art of dunking....

It eerrrkss me when Kenny, Cisco, Mikki and even Douby miss open layups! Kenny and Mikki shouldnt even try layups......they both are more the capable of a two handed dunk. doesnt have to be flashy. I mean yeah it is preseason...but where is the little extra effort. Does anyone else agree??

It's hard to believe how many Kings players have gotten into the bad habit of laying it in rather than dunking it. But, to be fair, it takes a lot of these guys extra time to prepare for the necessary jump and, all the while, defenders are closing in on you. Still, I think that 75% of the time, laying it in is the result of a bad decision. Also, despite what some people seem to think, a good percentage of dunks are missed, and that's embarrassing to a player. In practice, the lay-ups almost always seem to go in...

Maybe it's the thought of a preseason injury, saving the body for the regular season. And maybe it's just because a lot of our guys aren't that athletic. Moore and Thomas have missed tons of gimmes. Thanks God it's preseason! ;)

They have it in their mind before then go for the lay up or dunk that it will be blocked so they take a lay up to increase the chance of it not being blocked.

Mikki is probably the only one off that list who can dunk with relative ease. Maybe Cisco, but he's not the sort of freak athlete that can do it from odd angles or wrong footed or whatnot. While I absolutely believe that you finish with authority if you can, especially in traffic or on the move those guys may nto find it that easy. Dwight Howard or LeBron can dunk anytime they get within the paint, no matter how many other bodies there are or how off balance they are. Our guys? Not so easy/natural.

We are def layup challenged... it would've made the difference staying in the game last night.

Push those layup drills hard Reggie!

Dunking takes core strength and these guys don't have much. None of them gather with two feet besides Justin Williams. None of them can shift their weight except John Salmons but he doesn't have the core. I recommend conditioning and plyometric.
