Wow! I cannot believe I am losing to a band with no bass player and three completely incompatible lead guitarists... I guess we are looking for a number of solo artists and not an actual band....

You think Fogerty and Angus are compatible???

I don't know about anyone else, but you're not losing to a band with no bass player and three completely incompatible lead guitarists. In my case, at least, you're losing to Jimi Hendrix. He could be standing up there with Bozo the one-legged monkey and three mannequins and he'd still get my vote.

Thank you. After all, it did say in the pre-draft write-up that its about who can put on a better live performance. Nobody even comes close to Hendrix IMO. Then add Townshend, who was a part of the "best band ever to see live", and I think the 5 of them could manage to put on quite a performance

Hendrix was the best Gimmick-man in the game at the time with Townsend #2; but at the end of the day, he is still just a gimmick-guitarist, nothing altogether that special anymore IMHO.

Let's see, they both play blues-based pentatonic rock? Check! To me, they are a perfect fit... Fogerty's style of blues-based hard rock is just older than Angus's... but they are still in the same line of music. And the idea that Hendrix, Page and Townsend can all play anything resembling music together without a rhythm section is flat nuts.

I hear your point, but this would be Hendrix without a rhythm section... and with his rhythm section, he was just noise.

I bet if it came right down to it, Pete Townsend could be persuaded to pick up a bass. After all, Noel Redding auditioned for guitarist, but agreed to play bass for Jimi because Jimi dug his hairstyle.

Tell me you are not dissing the musicianship of Jimi Hendrix? I am pretty sure Jimi could put on a "musical" one-man show that would blow your mind. Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock comes to mind. He was an absolute musical genius and although SRV is in my own band - I have never held with those who say SRV was as great as Jimi. Nobody was as great a rock guitarist as Jimi. Listen to the Axis Bold as Love album, or just the off hand fills he throws in on the Monterey Pop performance of Like A Rolling Stone (my personal favorite number of his).

What am I saying... this might be my opponent in the semis... it is a SCANDAL that he is allowed to have no bassist... OFF WITH HIS HEAD. Just say no to rule benders!!! :)

By the way I have noticed that the bands with an overly dark image have been trounced.. just depends on the audience I guess.

I respectfully disagree. I was lucky enough to attend a couple of Jimi Hendrix performances - the last one actually at Cal Expo - and he was anything but noise. Since this is all fantasy anyway, I can feel perfectly comfortable in the belief that he would, once again, knock my socks off...

I have no doubt about Jimi's ability to wow a crowd, but he absolutely MUST have a rhythm section... same is true for Townsend and Page.

The idea that Hendrix isn't overrated is one that fascinates me.

You seemed to have had a problem with my Hendrix pick since the beginning. Which is fine, but there's no denying that he's undoubtedly one of the best guitar players ever, and the best imo.

As for your point about no rhythm, if you bothered to read my write up, it says Townshend would tune down and provide bass most of the time when he isn't playing synth. I made a mistake specifically assigning him guitar instead of synth, but that is what he is best known for.

I must admit that I went for the best live performance angle also, and never focused on them being a successful band for 30 years. You have a great band put together, I think we all do, but I'd rather see mine do a live performance.

I feel like I could continue this argument forever and ever... so I will just shut up and go away.

The lack of a bass player is an issue (and I would have rather had bass then Pete), but I still voted that way because I can see Hendrix and Page doing some insane stuff together. After that, I factored in bagpipes and that was that. I was never all that into Young or Fogerty.
