And what is that?

Nobody (speaking generically, of course you're always going to have some strange folk) hates on Lebron's basketball ability. Lots of people hate on his "antics/drama". When someone says nobody is going to hate on Giannis "after this performance", the context is clearly talking about basketball performance. As an example, if after this season Giannis goes out on a puppy and kitten-killing rampage and becomes PETA's public enemy #1 do you mean to tell me that you're going to say "AH HA see I was right, that post that nobody was going to hate on him was clearly wrong!"?

Okay, I guess. Sure. But, what actually makes that hate different, qualitatively speaking?

Naw he can kick rocks on another team. :p
(I honestly thought I referenced the kings somewhere in my post but kept rewriting it and guess I ended up leaving it out. Good catch ;) )

Well it wouldn't be too farfetched. I'm sure lots here (though not including me) would love to see Cousins win a (legit, as opposed to a gimme) ring, even if on the Lakers.

Not sure how comfortable I am with calling Toronto a small market but I get your points.
They'd more be an "unattractive" market? They shouldn't be, but they are. Canadian dollar, taxes, weather, I'm guessing no soul food. I'd probably move to Toronto in a heartbeat when I retire (or dead NBA city Vancouver, which I think is the greatest city in North America)

Anyhow, I think Toronto and MIL have proven if you are even close to it, you sell everything to get there because you can't ever take it away. Just thinking about what should have been in 2002 and how different our franchise would be viewed had it happened for us.

It's different because it's clearly not the "hate" being referred to or intended to refer to in the original context.
What kind of tautology is that? It's different, because it's clearly different? Why is one form of hating, apparently, okay, and the other isn't? How is it even different?

i remember some goofy looking guy in a Steven Segall movie saying, "Chance favors the prepared mind." I feel like the best argument for continuing to stay the course with a team like Toronto or Milwaukee is, "Hey, you never know when all of the obstacles in your path might fall apart, in front of you, clearing your way to a championship!"

I really hate the way that the word "narrative" has been co-opted, but I can't think of a more appropriate one, off the top of my head, so how do we think this win changes the narrative for Mike Budenholzer? I mean, if Kevin Durant wears the correct sized shoe, this guy would have been fired a month ago, and now, he's the head coach of the reigning NBA Champions.

I'm confused by "stay the course". Certainly both teams benefited from their biggest threats in the East and even some WC contenders misfortunes but are you suggesting Toronto would be happier long term had they not won it all with Kawhi and kept DeRozan and maintained Portland Trailblazer status? Or are you saying they'd have still won because everyone else fell apart?

It's too early to tell with Milwaukie but presumably they can hold this team together and make another run. They already extended Giannis so the hard parts over.

There's really no reason to fire Bud now. It would lower the morale for the entire team. He just won the finals, not much more you can ask. I think in a lot of ways, he proved that he was good enough to win. If they become stagnant in 2-3 years, I think that's the time to cut him free.
