The final 48 hours

We have to do something else. We don't have enough players for a full roster as it stands right now.

Bibby
Martin
Artest
Thomas
Miller
Garcia
Douby
SAR
Salmons
Williams - offer outstanding
Price - offer outstanding

That's only 11.

Draft pick.

and durant is last....is he now the most unathletic guy out there?

Yeah exactly. The draft combine results are to be taken with a grain of salt. It's already been pointed out elsewhere that guys with freakishly long arms are at a considerable disadvantage in the bench press. And you have to add wingspan to jumping ability to calculate how far above the rim these guys will be playing. The big questions with Julian Wright are whether or not he can improve that jumpshot and whether he has the personality to bring it every night instead of the on/off intensity he showed in college.

You've got to realize if a 6'7" tweener is the best player available, that's who we should draft. You don't pass up a star player because you've already got too many scrubs who play the same position. You take the star now and worry about dumping the scrubs later. The only real argument should be who the best player is, not whether they fit the immediate needs of a team that won 33 games last year.

Draft pick

I sure don't see us going into the 2007-2008 season with that roster.

I can see it now! Petrie will probably add a couple of undrafted FAs and waste an MLE on an average player. That would make me sick! Petrie hasn't done squat lately, until he does swing a decent move.. I'm a little worried.

OR he could make some good trades as the first step in a multi-year rebuild. Sorry but I'm not gonna be depressed or worried at this point. What's the use?

Who exactly is this star player you are talking about. If its Julian Wright, he is so far away from being a star its not funny. He is a classic tweener. His handles are average for a SF, he can't shoot, doesn't have a single move to get to the hoop consistently and is terribly inconsistent. Not exactly a star material, not by a long shot.

If none of the bigs are there I would rather trade down and pick someone of some value to us rather than a questionable could be at best.

I'm not talking about anyone specifically, I'm just arguing against the idea that we "must" draft a big man this year because of what our needs are or because of who we anticipate being in the draft next year. If the best player we can get is a 6'7" tweener (whoever that happens to be) then that's who we should draft, regardless. With the 10th pick we're going to pick whoever the other 9 teams don't want anyway. You shouldn't artificially limit yourself even more by ruling out certain players solely on the basis of position. All things being equal you take the player who fills a need, but that shouldn't be your primary consideration. And you shouldn't be freaking out in advance at the idea of taking another swingman before you even know who's there to choose from.

You might want to read the story from today's Bee posted in the main Kings forum, hrdboild.

Yeah, that was a good article. Pretty much covered all the bases. We'd obviously love to have a big man if available, and there are a lot of attractive options which could slip to us. If Conley falls to us, we have to at least consider it. Thornton would likely be available and he's worth considering too. If we don't like what's available to us at #10 we could trade down to get a player we'd prefer. And there's some concern about Hawes' athletic ability even if he has the offensive skills to play center in the NBA. Pretty much covers everything. I agree with all of that. Despite what the title implies ("Kings look ready to draft big man"), that says nothing about us passing on potentially better players to target big men. More than likely we won't be drafting another guard this year simply because there aren't many projected in our draft pick range. Conley and maybe Acie Law or Nick Young and that's it.

There's another article here which tells you the other side of the story -- after the first pick, the pickings are slim at the center position this year. (Which makes it that much harder to target big men)

who will be bummed if we just draft J.Wright and thats it. no other trades or moves?

i will be bummed for sure.

there would have to be a firework show of moves before the season started to make me happy.

if this team stands pat again and tries to pull signing players like Maurice Taylor, Woods, Salmons. along wit only having one draft pick. i would be so bummed.

I will definitely be bummed...
If we snag Yi then maybe not as much, but I definitely would like the kings to get another pick, please make it happen Petrie!!!

If Brandan Wright is available, I say we take him. This is the type of player we need. A power forward a little over 6'9, who is athletic with a good wingspan, a good fg%, that can block shots. How come on this thread no one has really talked about us getting Brandan Wright if he’s available?? I think he is just what this team needs. If he is available, I say we take B. Wright!!

Since the Kings are working out players that seem to be in the late first round category maybe there is some validity to the Artest/Heat rumors involving the 21st pick(I think that is what Miami has).

its been talked about. its just not likely. the only reason him dropping has been mentioned is due to his desire/motor not always being there and his refusal to work out against other prospects.

so, he MIGHT drop to us, but its not that likely.

We've all been aware of the Kings needs for a long time, but IMO they could not possibly pass on Brewer if he was there at 10. Too good a prospect as far as I'm concerned I don't care how many Martin scored last year. I know it doesn't make sense initially, but I've been hoping the Kings would only keep two out of bibby, artest, salmons, Garcia and Martin and get a good big by losing 3 of them rather than trying to get big at #10 in the draft.

Another reason Brandan Wright might drop is because teams weren't as impressed with his workouts as they thought they would be, which is a good thing for us. Should he drop, I say we snach him up

You gotta take him...
A few months ago, this kid was a lock behind Durrant and Oden. It would be great if we could get this guy.

i agree...this guy has so much potential..he reminds me so much of Carlos Boozer only thing more athletic and can rebound and block better

Looking at who will likely be available at the 10th pick, I'm only going to be mad if we draft Spencer Hawes or Acie Law (or if we trade down). Anyone else at the 10th pick looks pretty good to me. I'm not going to get my hopes up for Brandan Wright, but that would be pretty incredible.

that's a big "if"

part of me is hoping and praying he falls to us. i can't focus at work thinking about tomorrow. i just want to be able to get off work tomorrow, rush home, and turn on ESPN

the rest of me is telling that other part to shut up and not get your hopes up

I'm just hoping i dont find myself in the same situation as last year when i was screaming at the tv for the kings to get marcus williams, and the picked up douby. If they kings have a chance to get a big such as Brandan wright, they better not pass on him!

I wouldnt worry, in Drafts of past, there were always favorites that slid down the list. The question remains, if he slides past all teams that pick before the Kings, why shouldn't he slide past the Kings as well. I don't hold my breath for that.
