The Build Your Own Kings Team Game

Christie at $2 is a steal, but I'm gonna go a different way just to make it interesting:

PG: White Chocolate, $3
SG: Mitch Richmond, $5
SF: Eddie Johnson, $1
PF: Jason Thompson, $1
C: Boogie Cousins, $5

Total: $15

Boogie and White Chocolate would make instant must-watch TV. Mitch is before my time, but I imagine they'd make an interesting "Big 3"

$1 Kenny Smith
$2 Doug Christie
$2 Lionel Simmons
$5 Chris Webber
$5 DeMarcus Cousins

Pretty easy team to pick for me. Could have gone a couple different ways, maybe have Mitch or Ron in there, but just too much to pass up on the two best players in our history playing together up front in Cuz and CWebb. Then you have Simmons and Christie being physical defenders on the perimiter, with Kenny being a good scorer (18ppg) and distributor (7apg) at point.

Could argue that balance is off with two best players operating in the post, but I don't care. It'd be the best frontcourt in the NBA and both are excellent passers, they could make it work.

Interesting game btw.

This was my pick, too. That would be an incredible team to watch. It wasn't asked but I'd have Corliss as the 6th man. :)

Can I play it a little differently?

4$ Vlade (Point Center, can defend the opponent's best big)
5$ DMC (Will be a dominating PF with some range too, not bad defensively as well)
3$ Ron (3 and lock-down D)
2@ Christie (2nd point guard, 3 and lock down D)
1$ Kenny Smith (by default)

This team has enough offense, lots of defense and can go toe to toe with any 5 out there.

EDIT: yes, I know I selected DMC for the PF slot. still within the 15$ rule though

Demarcus Cousins
Jason Thompson
Peja Stojakovic
Marcus Thornton
Jason Williams

Not the greatest defensive threat, but the offence would be a WHOLE lot of fun to watch.

Nope. I call foul. DMC is not a PF. That was the whole point of the game. You have to select a player for each position from the options given. ;)

I've seen this format used elsewhere. Thought it would be an amusing time waster while we wait for Gerbil to dazzle us.

Here's the simple rules. You have $15. Choose one C, one PF, one SF, one SG, and one PG from the following lists to make the best all time Sacramento Kings team you can for $15 or less. Then post your team so that everybody else can tell you why theirs is better. :)

All players based on best years as a King, not remainder of career.

Centers
$5 Demarcus Cousins
$4 Vlade Divac
$3 Brad Miller
$2 LaSalle Thompson
$1 Olden Polynice

Power Forwards
$5 Chris Webber
$4 Otis Thorpe
$3 Wayman Tisdale
$2 Brian Grant
$1 Jason Thompson

Small Forwards
$5 Peja Stojakovic
$4 Ron Artest
$3 Rudy Gay
$2 Lionel Simmons
$1 Eddie Johnson

Shooting Guards
$5 Mitch Richmond
$4 Kevin Martin
$3 Reggie Theus
$2 Doug Christie
$1 Marcus Thornton

Point Guards
$5 Mike Bibby
$4 Tyreke Evans
$3 Jason Williams
$2 Spud Webb
$1 Kenny Smith

Example:
$3 Brad Miller
$2 Brian Grant
$4 Ron Artest
$5 Mitch Richmond
$1 Kenny Smith
---------
$15

$5 Chris Webber PF
$4 Vlade Divac C
$3 Rudy Gay SF
$2 Doug Christie SG
$1 Kenny Smith PG

The $5 value was a bit difficult for me, because I really wanted to go with DMC for this one, but I am still not sold on his potential to rise up and lead this team to a championship (he needs to keep his head on straight more in order to sell me)
So, with DMC out of the picture for me, I had to go with the best player available, and that player, obviously, happened to be Mr. Webber. Vlade, at $4, was really a no brainer for me because the dude was a great passing big man, and I think having a great passing big man on any team is a big plus. The $3, $2, and $1 value were then chosen based on who I felt were the best at that position for each position. I think Rudy would be considered as a steal for $3, as would DC for $2. Rudy would bring a solid scoring option behind Chris and Vlade, and Dougie would shut down the other team's top player(s) with his ferocious defense. With the first 4 positions out of the way, and really by default, Kenny Smith would be the PG at $1 because, well, the PG position was the only one missing from my lineup, and I only had $1 to "spend".

You know that you actually don't hve to take 1 guy of each dollar value right? :)

You could take all 5 $3 peeps if you wanted to.

$5 Demarcus Cousins
$5 Chris Webber
$3 Rudy Gay
$1 Marcus Thornton
$1 Kenny Smith

I tried to get the best value in terms of talent and felt that the gap between my $5 guys were huge compared to the other positions. The team is a little offense heavy and not great at shooting but I think the overall talent level is really good and those little issues can be shored up by the bench.

These lottery pick options were missing:

PG: Bobby Hurley -$2 rebate
SG: Tariq Abdul-Wahad -$2 rebate
SF: Billy Owens -$2 rebate
PF: Pervis Ellison -$2 rebate
C: Joe Kleine -$2 rebate

This was a tough call.

$5 Cousins - C
$2 Grant - PF
$3 Gay - SF
$2 Christie - SG
$3 Williams - PG

Williams and Christie provide good balance. They won't give up the ball on offense, and they can stop penetration. There's good size. Williams, while not amazing from outside, will keep defenses honest.

The interior defense might need some help, but DMC is a great ballhandler in the high post, and Grant will clean up the junk. Rudy Gay gives that middle range/driving offense.

My hope here is that an efficient offense and a stout line of outer defense will keep teams in check.

I also brought in Keon Clark at the price of a bag of Doritos for the bench. :)

Jason Williams?

Assuming players at their peak, yes. How it's best assumed is up to the eye of the beholder, I suppose. He had great handles and was a solid pickpocket.

Sorry, was just kind of busting your balls. But yeah, i agree with what you said above, especially the bolded. I was just referring to the preventing penetration and protecting the ball comment. Those were by 2 biggest pet peeves with him. But his ball handling/passing was some of the best i have ever seen, he kept that ball on a string.

given most dynastys are created by having a great inside presence and backcourt star im going with boogie/webb & mitch as my center pieces and figuring the rest out later

there is a reason those three guys cost you the whole $15...you couldn't field a team :p

Great player combos and great handicapping. Made the game fun and interesting. My pick was great but then I saw a couple of dozen other great ones.

This was my team and kind of a no brainer for me. Huge value at $2 for Christie and L-Train when healthy was one of my faves.

Would be a lot tougher imho if Theus was at PG and Christie was $3.

Here is my $14 dollar team. I still have room to take on a bad contract:)

$5 Demarcus Cousins (Cousins right now is ready to roll!)
$5 Chris Webber (this would be the rookie CWebb with 2.2 blocks per game)
$1 Eddie Johnson (I'm taking the 88-89 version of EJ 3 pt % at .413)
$2 Doug Christie (Doug early in his Kings career playing D)
$1 Kenny Smith (This would be the Houston years Kenny)

I could not resist teaming up CWebb and Cousins. EJ, DC and Kenny just filled out the team from there.
