The brighter side of the Kings

I was reading all of this doom and gloom Kings talk lately and I wanted to shoot out some positive Kings vibes... brighten things up a little... So, what is great about the Kings right now?

1. Quality young bigs: They may be a year or two out, but Thompson and Hawes are going to create a solid foundation for the Kings future. The Kings have had young, promising guards and small forwards in the past few years, but nothing like two promising bigs! Every minute I see these guys play, the more excited I get about the coming seasons.

2. The other young guys: Bobby Brown has been a surprise to say the least and Donte Green reminds me of a young Gerald Wallace in a lot of ways. Donte's minutes are vital to the Kings not making the same mistake they made with Gerald Wallace.

3. Coaching change this summer: The Kings brass should have a long list of candidates for the coaching vacancy. I hope they move fast and get a replacement as soon as possible. Hopefully a coach that can bring a winning attitude and tradition to our young players.

4. The Draft: The Kings have two picks in the first round this season... I love watching Petrie pick players... you can never predict his picks... ever (except for Hawes)...

5. Who's leaving?: Bobby Jackson, Quincy Douby, and Shelden Williams all have contracts that are ending this season. Next season, Kenny Thomas, Brad Miller, and Mikki Moore are all enders. Don't think that this is important? The Kings traded Bibby for a prospect and enders. The Kings might find other teams in need of enders... they have more value then people sometimes realize especially in February.

So, don't drop your heads... the Kings are on the move!

6. The team is letting their only star player fully recover before coming back from injury. This gives them more ping pong balls in the upcoming draft, giving them a shot at future franchise players Griffin or Rubio, and prevents further re-aggravation of his Kevin's $50 Million ankles. They have also done this to some degree with Francisco Garcia.

7. The Kings are under the luxury tax, and are projected to be significantly under the salary cap (even without further trades) in 2010. That season has been projected as the largest free agent crop of talent in history.

8. Work is still in progress to build a new arena to keep the Kings in Sacramento for years to come, and the newly elected mayor has NBA ties.

I dont think Mikki plays for us next year, expect an early buy-out... I don't expect the team to pickup his option for next season and I doubt Miller will be here as well...

I'm with you. It could be even worse. I would add Cisco to the mix of positives. He's playing hurt out there. He's not himself. I'd like to know why the don't shut him down for a week or two to get that calf totally healed.

Awesome points, especially number 6.

1. As long as we don't over pay them
2. WTH Donte belongs with number 1
3. Why change what does not work with something that might not work when you already know what your going to get with the first. +++extra money, extra time to adjust, alot of negatives that go along with a coaching change, and im not ready to focus on that aspect of the kings just yet. Lets focus on numbers 1 & 2
4. YES, im not sure we will see HOU's pick this year tho.
5. enders are fun for everyone, LAL and PHX and NYK are all going to be looking to shed salary this summer. Lamar sign-trade for Miller makes just enough room for LAL to be around come july 2010

Assuming Mikke doesn't get traded before the deadline as filler this year, I would not be suprised if we do bring him back next year. Keeping a $3-4 million dollar expiring contract around can help facilitate trades during the season. And even if we end up not needing his contract for a trade, he is a solid citizen and good character guy.

All this assumes that the Maloofs aren't being seriously hurt by the economy and would keep a potentially valuable expiring contract instead of needing to save the money.
