On April 21, 1951 -- 70 years ago today -- the Rochester Royals beat the New York Knicks in game 7 of the NBA finals to claim this franchise's only championship.

The Royals had defeated the 2-time NBA champion (Minneapolis) Lakers in the West finals. They won the first 3 games over the Knicks, but then the Knicks won the next 3 to force the first game 7 in a championship series. The Royals won the deciding game 79 - 75. The coach was Les Harrison, and there were 4 future hall of famers on the team: Arnie Risen, Bob Davies, Bobby Wanzer and Red Holtzman.
