Thank you prayer

Many of you know that I just returned from Springfield, IL., where my family still lives. It was hit by a tornado last night/early this morning.

My 77 year old mother has 5 buckets catching water in her bedroom from roof damage and her neighbor's tree (right next to her bedroom) was uprooted...but she is okay. My sister lost the siding off her house and her electrical box was ripped off her house and thrown into the yard...but she is okay. My nephew lost a few shingles and is without power...but he and his family are okay. Another sister (and brother-in-law) are without power...but they are okay.

Thank you God!!!!!!!!

6th- my prayers are with your family and with you. You are an incredible person to be looking at the bright side & to be thankful for the important things (the safety of your loved ones) instead of concentrating on the negative.

Wow.

I'm very glad everyone is okay. Really puts things into perspective, doesn't it? It's really only the things that breathe that are truly important. The rest is...just stuff.

Update...

I want to tell you about an incredible woman who sat on her sofa and prayed while the pressure of a tornado roared down her street uprooting trees and telephone poles; uprooting a huge tree and throwing it on a neighbors house (right across the street); and, throwing shingles and siding from her house, garage, and neighbor's homes into her yard. Several business just one block over were totally destroyed. Yet, hers is the only house on the block with a working phone. Hers is the only house with not so much as a leaf ripped from her own trees. Yes, my mother is a believer and God did answer those prayers.

There are a lot of destroyed homes and businesses in Springfield, IL today. The mayor says that not a square inch of the city escaped some kind of damage. The worst hit area was the township of Jerome where my mother, a sister, and a nephew and his family live. They only sustained minor damage to their properties.

Yes, it was a frightening day as more and more word came to me of the happenings in my hometown. And, still, there really was much to be thankful for.

Thank you, my friends, for offering up prayers of thanksgiving on behalf of my family. It is greatly appreciated.

Another update:

My mother returned home today. She has power on her side of the street, even though her neighbors across the way do not. Hurray!!

She gave me a report of damage. The National Weather Service confirmed that two F-2 tornados roared through Springfield, IL last Sunday night. There were 250 homes totally destroyed and 1500 businesses destroyed or with considerable damage. 8 of the 12 hotels suffered so much damage that they had to close. With only 4 hotels, the Red Cross had a very difficult time finding rooms to house the many homeless families....at least those who had no other family to move in with.

Even with all that damage...there were no deaths and no reports of serious injuries....NONE.

My mom went to stay with my sister and brother-in-law for a couple of days, and my sister went to stay with her daughter and son-in-law. She may be there a bit longer because of all the electrical work needed on her home due to the storm's damage.

Once again, I thank you, my friends, for joining me in prayers of thanksgiving. The safety of the residents of Springfield was truly miraculous.
