Teams Kings Have Problems Beating...

It seems like the Kings always have problems beating certain teams.

Minnesota Timberwolves
Portland Trail Blazers
Golden State Warriors

It feels like every year, the Kings have problems beating these 3 teams. Why is that? Kings can capable of beating basically any team in the NBA, but these 3 teams always find away to beat the Kings or at least keep it a close game.

Kings didn't seem to have a problem with beating Minney last Sunday or Golden State, the other day, even without some of the starters.

They have problems beating teams that can shoot well and great rebounding and post teams. Or a combination of all of them. It seems lately that they've also had some trouble with running teams, which is ironic considering that style is part of their roots. So that would make teams like Wolves, Sonics, Heat, and possibly the Suns a threat to the Kings. And of course, the Blazers. A physical team like that always gives the Kings a lot of trouble. We'll find out about the Suns soon enough though.

The Kings have NO problem beating teams in the playoffs as weve seen. We took Minny to 7 games last year.... who cares about the reg season and when the Warriors make the playoffs let me know.

Interesting post. What is this 3 teams have in common? Shotblocking presence in the post... maybe. What TWolves and Jailblazers have in common is both have a Peja stopper in Hassel and Patterson.

I agree , but i also think the Kings player's state of mind ... and the fact that those teams play thier asses off agianst us... but i aint too worried ... with all the rust of our team we still hung in ... i think every nba team as a opponent that will play 110% agianst them ...

Minnesota = yes. Largely a KG thing, but that team when healthy and focused looks a lot like ours + plays inspired ball against us.

Portland = yes. And its a great mystery. Obviously a lot of athletes now, but been going on for years as the personnel just constantly rotates up there.

Golden State = no. That's a very recent phenomenon. Until last season I think we had something like a double digit win streak going against them. Golden State has actually traditionally been the Lakers' cryptonite.

Seattle, especially in Seattle, has been a problem too, again even as personnel constantly rotates.

I agree with Bricklayer on Warriors. We've always have Warriors numbers. I heard that ever since Webber's being in the lineup for the Kings, they have only lost 2 games against Warriors.

But I agree, Wolves and Blazers always give us trouble.

Seattle and Portland for a while now, Minny for the past couple years or so. I think there's one east coast team out there that always seems to give us trouble...can't seem to think of one off the top of my head right now? Knicks until this year, I guess, especially at the Garden. It also seems like whatever team is the worst at the moment beats us (Orlando last year, New Orleans this year).

I just had a thought... was this the first game ever to see four different players hit 3's within one minute? Is there even any way of finding out?

Add the Spurs to the mix, and Seattle. I disagree on all three teams you mention since we beat them earlier this season. Portland is too inconsistent to say we have problems with them, although Randolph is probably unguardable by the Kings and Damon happened to have a good game against us.

Well Spurs are kind of a different animal -- in the past we have NOT particualrly struggled with them more than we should have. But they've always been an elite team able to play us straight up, and now this year there is a legitimate question whether they might not just be better than us. Not sure how mystified you can be if a team that's better than you keeps on beating you. Its those lesser teams whihc you should by all rights own, but instead mysteriously struggle against which are so surprising.

Without specifying any particular team I think you can generally say that our toughest matchups come against teams with dominant forwards (but not necessisarily centers for some odd reason), guys that play above the rim or are athletic enough to block our shots or out jump us for rebounds. These teams not only pound us like a drum they intimidate us from the get go before they've even blocked one of our shots. With out high post offense geared to garner easy baskets on back door cuts and every thing flowing to the hoop a good defensive man can really disrupt our shot selection and force us into a primarily jumpshooting team.
