Tank for Wiggins?

Tank for Wiggins.

This coming year is going to be the tank of all tanks in the NBA. You might have the bottom half of the league tanking.:D Wouldn't surprise if the bottom 10 teams set the record for the average worst record of all time.

I split this out because it's going to inevitably be an ongoing topic and there's no reason to pollute a bunch of other threads.

Maybe we get lucky (assuming we don't tank) and many Western Conference teams who don't have a chance at a big run just tank, leaving spots around the eight position available? :D Probably wishful thinking but hey...

Actually I think because the upcoming draft is most likely going to be an 'all-time great' that it's the perfect opportunity for the Kings to go for it and try to make the play-offs...as there will be teams trying to tank.
The downside of course is that we will end up losing our draft-pick...which is really, really irritating...but if we make the playoffs I'll be content with that trade-off.

Agreed.

id rather have Wiggins. that will bring years of Playoffs.

*shakes his head*

Sure...I'd love Wiggins...but let's be realistic. This team with the new franchise and change in culture has too much talent to be the worst of the worst. We've been the worst team in the league...and in the bottom 7 for 4-5 years...and the best pick we've ever gotten was 4th pick.

There is no realistic way for us to be one of the 4-5 worst teams in the league...and by that time you're talking about under a 5% chance at Wiggins...and that isn't even close to good enough of odds to waste an entire season when you're trying to change the culture of the team.

Of course, but 1 team gets him. And the chances of it being us are very very slim. Cousins alone pretty much makes it impossible for us to be the worst team in the league next year. And Coach Malone isn't going to change the culture at all by helping to facilitate the front office's tanking plans. There's just no way for this to work without unloading everything Charlotte Bobcats style, and that's a move that requires a lot more than one draft to recover from.

i know, i know we wouldnt get him anyway, and im not saying to tank. but i was just saying i wouldnt take that tradeoff of missing him just for playoffs this year.

Then thank the great God Naismith you're not our front office. We absolutely MUST get rid of the losing culture that has surrounded the Kings for far too long. Have you ever seen the Kings in the playoffs? Do you have any idea what it does to you to stand in Arco (STA) and cheer for a playoff game? It's a feeling that simply defies description. It cannot be explained or duplicated; you have to live it to appreciate it.

We're well past tanking. Screw that. I've felt that way for two years now.

However, if we strike out in free agency and if we don't keep Reke, then likely the only way to replace that talent is getting a high pick next year in the deepest and most talented draft in a decade.

It gets real, real LOUD!!!

Imagine we retain Evans, so we have a trio of Evans/McLemore/COusins but don't make the playoffs. We are around 12th overall but end up with a top three pick. :)

Well...there is that. If we don't bring any high impact guys via FA and we lose Reke...we would probably need to hit the draft one more time to bring in a player with Cousins. The problem then is trying to convince Cousins to play hard for us...as he might want out if it looks as if we are going to spend another season in mediocrity.

And then we lose Cuz also. So we get a high draft pick and lose Tyreke and Cuz. And then the high draft pick gets jumpers knee, stress fracture, or gets hit by a truck. This is the Kings, ya know. Most players like to win and if/when we get Tyreke, still have Cuz, and McLemore turns out to be half of what we expect, we won't come close to tanking enough unless we start from day one and then you will have a handful in the ever-competitive Cousins. Does anyone want to be near a Cousins for an entire year when he is very unhappy?

Does anyone realize we got the ROY with the 4th pick, perhaps the best center in the league with the 5th pick and maybe the best guy in the draft with the 7th pick this year. As I state every draft, someone always falls in the draft. I'm willing to depend on that.

yes i have, and its amazing. which is why im saying i dont agree when he says he would trade off making the playoffs for just this one year compared to drafting a star like wiggins and becoming a perineal playoff team

I think he was saying that he would trade off making the playoffs for losing our pick next year to the Cavs (which would then be in the late teens or early 20s). We're not getting Wiggins regardless, and the playoffs would represent the first forward progress we've seen on the floor since this whole endless rebuild began. We have to be one of the 12 worst teams in the league next year to keep our pick. If it happens, it happens. But planning to postpone adding more talent to our team so we can get one last big score strikes me as a very terrible idea after the long ordeal we all went through. The fans are coming out in droves for positive change and hope for the future, not for more of the same. And I don't think we even need another high lottery pick anymore. We need the right kind of player to compliment the pieces we already have.

That's the risk. Don't match on Reke, strike out in free agency without replacing that talent(Vasquez doesn't replace it), with or without a top pick you're playing with fire when it comes to Cuz.

Ok, two points on this subject:

1- The last time the Kings had the best chance at landing the top pick, they landed the worst possible pick they could get.

The point? Tanking is stupid.

2- Wasn't the entire point of the NBA instituting a "lottery" back in 1985 to try keep franchises from tanking on purpose in an effort to try to get better draft position? That's sure worked out well. Instead of 2 or 3 bottom feeders battling it out for losses at the end of the year to secure a "guaranteed" #1 selection (thank you Houston Rockets) now we have 6 or 7 doing it despite the fact that their chances of actually landing the top pick is far, far less.

The point? The lottery is stupid.

Tank is no longer on our roster, and even if he was we could not trade for Wiggins until draft day at the earliest.

I'm going to assume this thread was made at least partly in jest, but in every draft I can remember we have picked in the same spot or worse as our record-projected spot

the guy is the real deal. unbelievable prospect. whoever wins the lottery next year is hitting a gold mine

Yeah, what people don't get about Tyreke is that he is absolutely one of the finest ballhandlers of his size I have ever seen. I am talking history of the NBA stuff. Its revolutionary what he do with the ball in his hands at his size. Wiggins is like that, except even bigger still. You just don't have a handle like that at 6'8". You don't. And if you do...well...

We should rename this to "Tank for 2014" Because there's more than one future superstar... Jabari Parker, Marcus Smart, Andrew Wiggins, etc.
