[drupal=92]Symbiosis at its very best[/drupal]

Tuesday's game against the Lakers was supposed to be an embarrassment, a clobbering on our home court that would break the hearts of the Kings fans in attendance while giving the myriad of Laker fans every reason to chant "MVP" and other inanities.

Only one problem. Our Kings didn't read the script.

They came out right from the beginning with the heart and hustle, energy and effort that got the crowd going. And from then on, the result (while not totally guaranteed) was almost inevitable.

For some of the Laker fans in attendance, the game was merely a disappointment. For others, though, it was a clear indication their team is not bullet-proof. Many left before the end of the game, shaking their heads in disbelief.

For the Kings fans, this was a sign of the resolve and spirit our team still possesses. And hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

Everything went right on Tuesday. The coach made good substitutions and gave the kids meaningful playing time. There was cohesion and teamwork and it all worked.

We saw quality minutes for our kids, the Kings of the future. And, for the most part, they stepped up and did their very best.

Granted, this was a game against the Lakers. As Bobby Jackson and John Salmons made clear, it was the one game they were not going to lose in Arco without a fight. And fight they did...

We aren't going to win a lot of games this year. We aren't going to end up deep in the playoffs. We're going to struggle and we're going to be defeated by better teams ... and sometimes even worse teams. That's just the way it is. But there's at least proof once again there's reason to watch.

And there's reason to cheer for the types of performances the team gave on Tuesday. Reward the heart and hustle, the energy and effort regardless of the final outcome. That's what the special relationship between the Kings and the fans has always been about.

It's a textbook example of symbiosis and it's great to know it's still there, at least for one night against one opponent.

I love that as long as the Maloofs own this team the LA vs Sacramento rivalry will continue. Lots of people say this is over and done with. But the Maloofs as well as all the Kings fans wont ever forget. Even though some of our own players admit that they dont really consider it that big anymore, however they do know its important to the BOSS'S(Maloofs) so it still remains a big deal, and they get up for these games!!! good times!

I just hope Kobe is around long enough for the Kings to get good and really take 'em to the woodshed.

Did you get that down south? If so, could you recommend where when I come visit?

Well, I can say with authority that there's no place in the world where germs love to live together with a common purpose than down here. Stay away from the street venders. There's a lot of symbiosis going on there.

With my God given ability to ignore the obvious, which was the initial intent of this thread, I have managed to lead it off in a direction that was not intended. Having labored over my own attempts at literary excellence, I know what its like to have my attempts ignored, which is actualy worse than being critized. So I apologize for the detour, which was not my intent.:o

I do not apologize, because a leopard cannot change its spots.

However, I am curious to see what the turnaround will be in LA. Will Theus continue giving the youth good minutes and make timely substitutions, or will he "stick with the vets" because the team is travelling into hostile territory? Will Kobe have an answer for Salmons? (I really enjoyed typing that.)

And, interestingly enough, we're not the only ones asking that question. I think a big part of the game will be watching how much respect Bryant shows for John Salmon's game. I look for him to do everything possible to get Salmons into early foul trouble. Gotta wonder if good ol' Dick Bavetta will be part of the crew tonight.

I saw Kobe nodding off in the first half of this past Kings game. He looked like he thought he was at Newport Beach. Should have had some shades on, resting on a towel at midcourt. He's taken this notion of pacing himself for the NBA finals to an extreme. I doubt we're going to see that tonight. Of course I hope I'm wrong...

I think his ego may be getting in the way of his brain. I know a number of Laker fans who are more than disgusted with the lackadaisical attitude their team is showing. If they do that again tonight, waiting until the second half to "turn on the switch," they might just find it's been rewired without them knowing about it.

I do not expect a repeat of Tuesday's game. For one thing, the atmosphere will be entirely different. But there's still hope for a couple of reasons.

1. The Kings proved to themselves they can pull it together and be competitive.

2. Our veterans do not like to lose in Staples, especially those left over from "the days." They'll be doing everything they can to make sure the kids catch the same fire.

At least I hope so.

I would like, more than anything else, to see Jack Nicholson scowling.

:)
