1st of all, I want to make it clear that I do not deserve more support than anyone else does. I, however, am simply putting my need out there and asking for my cyber family to give me all the support that they can. You are welcome to do the same.

I am about to complete 6 days without smoking...not one puff...not one whiff. ;) I had hoped by this time that the craving would subside. Of course, I suppose that is silly considering I averaged over a pack a day for 37 years.

Anyway, all week long I was at work during the day and too busy to think much about my craving. Now, I am at home...alone...and with nothing to keep me so busy that the craving goes away. It is right at the front of my brain...at all times, it seems.

Please offer me your support, prayers, jokes, anything you can think of that might help. I got it bad, kids. I do not want to have wasted what I have already accomplished by giving in now......but, dang, it is getting very very difficult, instead of easier. :(
 
Go 6th! You can do it! :D I have a friend who recently quit smoking and he feels a lot better because of it, I also lost my great grandmother to lung cancer. I myself am trying to stop smoking because I tend to smoke when I've had a couple of drinks and I'm trying not to make it become a habit. If you need a distraction from the cravings you can always PM me or IM me at doonie1985, I'll be online most of the time once I get to the US on the 12th. :) The same goes for anyone else who needs help.;)
 
I have all the support for you 6th. You can do it!!! Just dont think of it. I know u cant but I think you should go to your friends house to talk or go somewhere with them. That way u wont think about it.

Don't stop sixth. I'm actually working on a campaign for kids w/ the president to stop people from smoking. I wear the 1,200 bracelet every day because that's how many people die of smoking :( I don't want to pressure you into anything but If you stop, it'll make a whole lot of people (mostly your family and friends) happier. My grandpa & grandma had asthma because they smoked 1-2 packs a day. By starting w/ 6 days...that really helps. :D

I am sooo thinking about you 6th. I know how difficult quitting smoking can be (believe me), but I also know that the time will come when the thought of smoking will barely cross your mind. Every day brings you closer to that milestone.

Hang in there 6th -- what you're doing is HUGE! And you deserve huge respect for taking on this fight, beating this thing forever! I just can't begin to relate the respect I have for your determination to do this.

Thanks, hon, that is why I asked for the help. There are many friends (cyber family) I know I can count on here, and you are right near the top of that list.

Okay, arwen, here is the current quit meter info:

Five days, 23 hours, 29 minutes and 15 seconds. 179 cigarettes not smoked, saving $26.90. Life saved: 14 hours, 55 minutes.

Craving? Craving? You're whining about cravings?

Try living in the forest in the middle of a snow storm and suddenly getting a craving for Krispy Kremes!! Now that's a craving!!!!!

Seriously, you're doing fine. The cravings are getting stronger because the nicotine is losing its hold on your body and your body doesn't want it to leave. If they're strong right now, it's because the body is getting desperate. Just like it's always darkest before the dawn, the cravings are the strongest just before they seem to really drop off in intensity.

You WILL do this! It's not a prayer; it's an order! Hey, look at it this way: VF21 quit. Do you know how miserable she will make your life if you can't?

Carrot sticks, celery sticks, red licorice sticks - they all work because they replace the oral fixation part of the addiction.

If any one has ever been to an AA or NA meting you will KNOW how difficult it is to quit when you hear hopeles alcholics and long term dope fiends discuss quitting booz, and heroin but goingback to cancer sticksover and over. I quit smoking 18 years ago and still think about the dam things!

Personly I think it helps to NOT think of your decison in terms of quitting, or to define your slef as a former smoker. I like to think of my self as some one who does not smoke, does not choose to smoke. I don't think in terms of I CANT smoke or I USED to smoke, rather I CHOOSE not to smoke and I DON"T smoke. Just jsut sympathy and a little advice from a guy who does not smoke, but knows how difficult it is to stop.
 
Thanks, dear Celt! Yes, I know what you mean. They say that addiction to nicotine is worse than addiction to heroin. I believe them. I have been saying to myself, "I quit smoking" instead of "I am quitting". I like your thoughts too.

Here is what I did. I quit smoking 5 years ago cold turkey. At the beginning I had urges but what I kept saying to myself over and over again in my head " no". Every time I had urges I ekpt saying to myself, "no I am not going to have another cig" This is very usefull I would channel all my anger into quiting smoking. Every time I would angrily say NO to my urges. It worked I am a living example of this.

P.S. One of the major reasons for me to quit smoking is when I found out that my mother who smokes had breast cancer. Smoking is not worth risking your life and happiness of your love ones.

As I said in another thread, I quit smoking on my birthday in the year 2001. I must say the first day was so hard for me that my friends said if I made it thru the first day, they would take me out to dinner and golfing. I know that's a lot for them to do, especially on the FIRST day, but it was very hard for me.

The next several days I decided the first month I would put all the $ that I would have spent for cigarettes in a jar and save it for something I wanted ---- a golf club (driver), and for people that golf know how much golf club costs. So, my first month, I bought me a driver. The money you spend on smokes and of course your health, I decided it was the best present I could give myself on my b-day.....to QUIT smoking.

I'm pulling for you 6th. Believe me, I do know how difficult it is.

Good idea, Rock. I have saved over $27 in 6 days. So, I must think of something I want that will cost me about the $135 that I will have saved in 30 days.

Actually, I think your ideas are good.....well, except for the gum (can't chew it). I have taken a couple of naps today. And, I have a gazelle that I go work out on when the intensity of the craving is extreme.

Here's another way to think about it.....

If you don't smoke for more than 30 days, you can come up to Sacramento, and get yourself a good lower level seat :D

YOU CAN DO IT 6TH..

Here's another suggestion, when the craving gets too strong...start listing the people you know about that have either had to be hooked up to machines or worse. You can start the list with my grandmother, she had to have an oxygen tank at around 79 so that she could breathe, she smoked for several years.

You can also get a picture of a healthy lung and a picture of a smokers lung and put them on your wall or fridge. Seeing those images sometimes helps.

The Freak's right - give yourself little rewards along the way, 1 week, 1 month, etc. Since I'm about 5 days from my 6-month mark, today I went out and bought myself 2 new pairs of boots - 1 pair for staying smokefree, and 1 pair for the great echo test results yesterday.

Yes, I'm good at rationalizing just about ANY purchase.:rolleyes:
