PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns announced today that the club has acquired rookie guard Sean Singletary from the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard D.J. Strawberry.

“Sean gives us depth at the point guard spot,” said Suns President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Steve Kerr. “We like his instincts and his ability to run a team. He also puts a lot of pressure on the ball defensively. We thank D.J. for his contributions and wish him well.”

I am happy for Sean... Too bad he got squeezed out here.

So much for the thought that he might be cut loose and invited to our camp, but it was going to be tough for him regardless with the Kings viewing Brown as the better prospect, plus Bobby's acquisition.

According to Rocket fans posts, the trade was to get out of Singletary's partially guaranteed contract, while Strawberry has no guarantee and will be cut without a hit. Regardless, I assume the Suns picked him up to at least give him a look in camp or else they would have just released Strawberry.

And if I'm not mistaken, Brown has a two year guaranteed deal. Singletary's fate with the Kings was sealed the minute that deal was signed.

Correct, pretty much did it both position and capwise, the same that Greene did for Ewing.

Dang this has to be a record. 2 months and has already been with 3 teams and his rookie season hasnt even began. LOL

I think the writing is on the wall for Singletary already; he's been traded twice already and he hasn't even played an NBA game yet--he's just got really questionable NBA-translatable skills besides that commonplace scoring ability. I know he's got that partially guaranteed contract, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's cut loose from training camp nonetheless--he didn't impress at summer league with us either.

I think Singletary has a good shot to make the team. Nash & Bell aren't getting any younger, and backup PG Goran Dragic might be a bust (after all, DraftExpress compares his ceiling to that of Kings fan-favorite Jason Hart). Plus, I assume Terry Porter won't run D'Antoni's small 7-man rotations. I think there's a good chance that we'll be seeing Sean play this season...

Correct.

And this is why i think our GM is one of the best in the league. He's made some nice high profile moves but behind the scenes he's made little moves that are incredibly resourceful.

Well, first Singletary, and now our other 2nd rounder, Patrick Ewing Jr. He like Singletary has now been traded twice, ironically to the team his father played in, the New York Knicks. And imagine that...he got traded for the draft rights for Frederic Weis, who never played for the NBA and is most infamous for being dunked on by Vince Carter in the 2000 Olympics.

I'm glad we made up for our mistakes by trading those two, but again, the fact that they can't stick with their second teams speaks volumes about their perceived potential (although admittedly Singletary's was perhaps due to monetary issues as well).

It's the same situation with both deals, nothing really to do with the players. Houston only took on those two partially guaranteed deals for our benefit, because otherwise the Artest trade was putting us into the luxury tax. Houston would have just released both outright, but instead was able to work these two minor deals to avoid taking the hit of the partial guarantees themselves. We could have eventually done similar little deals ourselves, but Houston made it convenient for us in one fell swoop.

Does any one else get the feeling that PHX is not doing enough to get the peices shaq needs to put him in the finals. Shaq will win, if he gets there. But getting there is a whole different story. #1 they are over the cap, and trying to sign talent with a zipper for a wallet. #2 PHX has really cruddy players who happen to look good playing next to steve nash. I think PHX needs to trade DIAW and BARBOSA for someone who isn't a tweener like those two i mentioned.

I really would have loved to see Sean in our uniform. I wanted to keep him around and see what he can do, but I wish him the best and hopefully he'll stick to a team that can use him...and if he does get dropped, I hope we give him a call.
