NBA Submits Approval To Replace Belkin11th August, 2005 - 3:54 pm

Press Release - The National Basketball Association announced today that, in response to a decision issued on August 9 in Massachusetts Superior Court, Commissioner David Stern has submitted an affidavit stating that he has given his approval to the replacement of Steven Belkin as the Governor of the Atlanta Hawks .

The request to replace Mr. Belkin with Michael Gearon, Jr. was made by a majority of the Board of Managers of the club.

In granting a preliminary injunction preventing Belkin’s removal, Judge Allan van Gestel concluded that a precondition of any removal was the approval of the NBA Commissioner.

Thank God, he's out, about time. Maybe now the Hawks will have a slightly better chance of winning more than 15 games. He was not the most popular person in the organisation by a long shot.

Granted from a team point of view, this is most likely a good thing, but from a buisness point of view, what right does David Stern have to push an OWNER out? Sure, the other partners can vote you out I suppose, but what authority does Stern have over owners? If you have a team, and in your contract it stipulates that you have complete player control, than who is to say, other than the other owners, that he must forefit his stake?

joe johnson is not worth the max, he's looking out for the financial side of the team. whatever, it's the hawks, go figure. Stern should just kick them out of the league while he's at it.

Signing Joe Johnson outright for $70 million is highly questionable. Giving up a role player and two 1st round picks for the right to do it is crazy. Planning on doing all that and then playing Joe Johnson as your team's starting point guard is flat out nuts.

Belkin was correct in my opinion.
