sprewell will be a rocket

Sports Illustrated - Free agent Derek Anderson plans to sign a contract with the Houston Rockets , his agent said Sunday.

Tony Dutt, Anderson's agent, said he informed the Rockets of Anderson's plans, and he expects Anderson to join the team this week.

Anderson was released by the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the NBA's amnesty program. He met last week with Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy. Dutt said that was a pivotal meeting.

"I think he loved the fact of the team concept, and he's gonna earn every minute that he plays," Dutt told Houston television station KRIV.

"We were offered a lot more money at other places, but we were looking more for the fit and opportunity and this is it," Dutt said.

Spree to Detroit now.

So it's gonna be Sura (most likely)/Anderson/T-Mac/Swift/Yao

Anderson is an improvement over Wesley (height), but he seems like a borderline starter or something. Just solid.. I haven't seen too much of him though. I still will never get, nor care to, why they got rid of Jim Jackson.

I think Houston makes it to the 2nd round... WCF? That's a stretch.

Anderson will have to compete with Wesley for starting SG, but if his body is right, he'll win out easily. He's had a few terrible seasons with a trainwreck of a Portland team, but the last time he was healthy he put up 13/4/3 playing both guard spots, so we're crossing our fingers and hoping his knees hold up.

Jim Jackson was traded because he and T-Mac play the same position (SF), and it just made us way too slow. Adding Wesley gave us better ballhandling and much, much better perimeter quickness, on both offense and defense. There was also a rumour that T-Mac wanted him gone, apparently because JJ's one of those guys that when things are going great, he's a wonderful lockerroom guy, but when things are going bad, he's moody and unpleasant to be around. At the time of the trade, things were going preeeeetty bad for us.

I think most Rocket fans are just excited about our increased athleticism and depth. I mean, you're talking about a second unit of Mike James, David Wesley (or DA), Jon Barry, Juwan Howard (or Stro Swift), and Dikembe Mutombo. That's one of the best benches in the league, not to mention our first round pick Luther Head (and Charlie Ward, Moochie Norris, and Ryan Bowen as team cheerleaders). Plus, you have to consider that we got both Swift and DA at a very, very good price (MLE and LLE, respectively).

So we're pretty pumped. At the very least, we should be able to get those punk Mavericks back next year :D

JJ would've been fairly moody if he had remained on with the kings then... :(

and i find it almost comical how every fan (including us) finds their bench "one of the best" in the league. :D

Phoenix fans can't and won't be able to say that. :)

Houston we have a problem. :)
Elaborate?;);) For starters, Houston has a Relocation Crime Lab Index of 273. The average is 100.

Annual Crime rates per 100,000 people:
562 Robberies per 100,000
612 Aggravated Assaults per 100,000
1098 Vehicle Thefts per 100,000
