Spenser Hawes

He'll stay in Philly next year. Then put up 1 hit wonder type numbers. Then next offseason some team will pay him mid level to wtf overrated level because he's young and tall without realizing he doesn't play D and shoots too many 3s.

I rather keep our Haitian friend.

I would not mind giving him a very small contract. I liked the guy, just he wasn't doing anything for us...

I loved the Hawes/Nocioni for Dalembert trade. I thought it was an absolute homerun for Geoff. As I said before that deal, my fear was that Spencer would put up numbers this last season that were JUST good enough for teams to think he could mature into a Kaman level talent and start a small bidding war for him. Meaning the Kings would lose him for nothing or badly overpay to keep him.

Unfortunately for Spencer he didn't put up improved numbers. In fact, I don't think his game improved at all, which is a bad, bad sign for a big as young as he is.

Hawes is what he is and I'm sure he can help some team out in one fashion or another. But what the Kings need off the bench is energy, defense and rebounding from their bigs. Maybe a guy who can stretch the floor a bit as a PF. Spencer provides none of the first three and there are many guys I'd rather have for the last one.

Pass.

You have to be kidding me bro. You even spelled his name wrong so that goes to show you how much you support this move.

They say you can never go back. Thats probably true for Spence. He was a disappointment to me. Coming out of college I thought he would become a better player once he adapted to the league. I cut him some slack because of all the coaching changes and such. I think Spence has a place in the league, and thats more than likely as a good backup center. His window of opportunity may not be totally closed, but its damm close. I like Spence and I wish him well..

The Sixers plan to give Spencer Hawes, who was the team's starting center last year, a $4.05 million qualifying offer by the June 30 deadline. There's a good chance he'll return.

Am I missing something? Where does it say Philly doesn't want Hawes?

As for his place in the league, he's still only 23. I predicted that he'll be a starting C by age 25/26 so it still may happen for him. I wish him luck but I don't want him back.

If they wanted him he would get a long term deal. He will be a restricted FA this year. If he takes the 1 year deal he is unrestricted next year barring changes in the CBA.

I don't think it necessary means Philly doesn't want Hawes, I think they do want to retain him but don't want to give him a long term deal until they get one more year in. Can always sign him next season, Hawes will be an unrestricted FA and may leave Philly, but this is the more cautious approach from the Sixers' point of view.

I agree with you. Why give him a long term deal when you can wait till he's unrestricted and see what the going price will be. They'll retain his Bird rights, if there still are Bird rights, and can match any price if they desire to do so.

No. Spenser really disappointed me. To me, it seemed like part of the problem had to do with his attitude. He just came in thinking he knew best and just didn't seem open to coaching. Some of his comments regflected that attitude.

If he wants to improve, he needs to drop the attitude and listen to people who do know what they're talking about, better than he does. I harbor no ill will against him, but I don't really want him back. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Hawes was one of those frustrating players that never did seem to get better.
All stats from 82games.com.

Year eFG% inside% Rbd Pass SB 'Hands' PER

07/08 .465 .47(.547) 25.9 2.4 6.3 8.1 13.4
08/09 .491 .48(.587) 25.8 2.1 6.2 8.3 14.6

10/11 .473 .43(.589) 28.0 3.5 5.2 10.2 13.2

A PER of 15 is basically average, so definately not what we wanted out of the 10th pick.
