Spencer Hawes: to re-sign or not to re-sign HAHAHA!

takes me back to the good old days

You mean that year or so when you had your anti-Spencer vendetta, you nicknamed him "soggy waffles" and every single post you made had an insult directed at Hawes somewhere in it?

Dude, those were NOT the good old days. Not remotely.

This article does remind me of one of the reasons I was somewhat relieved that Petrie traded Hawes. Demarcus Cousins is the exception and not the rule. Young bigs (not counting your 7 foot outside shooters ala Bargnani) routinely take years to develop and play at a high level in the NBA, especially ones that leave school after just a year or two. Look at Chris Kaman for example.

Spencer was frustrating but there was clearly potential there and still is. He may never become a good player (and I question how much desire he really has in that regard) but the raw tools and size are there. But I didn't want to have him on my team when the decision had to be made to sign him to a second contract or not. But somebody will. And it may pay dividends for them, but I didn't want Petrie taking that risk.
