So I guess this is gonna drag out till the last minute on Monday

I don’t think the Maloofs will file for relocation. If they thought they had a chance of successfully doing that, I believe they would have done it already. No reason to wait until the last minute if they plan to file and I don’t see what’s going to change between now and Monday.

But, would they file for another extension? I bet they have just enough audacity to do that!

Will they sell? (We can only hope!)

Or will they just do nothing and try and come back to Sacramento next year like nothing ever happened?

All I know is, I’ll be glad when this is over. I’ve never followed an ongoing news story this closely in my life and honestly, it’s been stressful, big time. I just want to get back to a life where I’m not constantly checking for news updates 24/7, lol.

We may see an announcement that the Maloofs are selling, but I don't think it will happen before Monday.

At this point I'm starting the think the Maloofs will file for relocation anyway. They very clearly don't want to return to Sacramento and they also don't want to sell the team. They see Anaheim as the only favorable outcome.

I think they'll try sending it to a vote because they feel there's no other good solution for them. If the NBA votes it down then I think it's likely that they sell. On the other hand, there's still a chance they get the votes and are able to move - seemingly against the wishes of the relocation committed and NBA executives and/or David Stern.

We'll see.

If they were going to file, why wait until the final day? Stalling doesn't benefit them at all at this point.

Couldn't tell you. But you could also ask - if they aren't going to file why wait until the deadline to say so.

I think they were completely unprepared when the NBA BOG didn't rubber stamp their move to Anaheim and even more stunned/frustrated when they started getting advised to stay in Sacramento.

I don't think they know what to do. Some in the family want to sell. None seem to want to return to Sacramento. I think they are weighing their options and very well may decide to sell. But I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me to see them roll the dice on Anaheim. After all, if the move is rejected (and I think it would be) then they'd likely sell anyway so what do they have to lose?

They wouldn't, if they knew that. I don't think they know that for certain though. I think they're probably hoping to change the committee's mind at the last minute and get their blessing to file.

I could imagine a request for another extension. After all, they could argue, what if the ICON feasability study comes back with a thumbs down? They'd be "stuck" in Sac another year for "no reason".

I can see them asking for another extension; they just might have the audacity to do it. I mean, it's not like the NBA has more important agendas that will affect the future of the league.

Dont think KJ would have brought them to NY if that was the direction of the study. ICON was at the meeting today too with the regional leaders.

Based on recent turn of events (the Maloofs having a lawyer gathering up "evidence" about Phil Jackson torpedoing their relocation efforts, Samueli's increased bid offer) I firmly believe the Maloofs are viewing this as Anaheim or bust. I can't envision them returning to Sacramento now. I think either they get the go ahead to move or they sell the team. Either way, I don't see another extension being granted.

Monday should be interesting.

I think the Maloofs have already committed too much to Samueli(sp?) to stay in Sac. That means they sell or move. The "Maloofs as Kings owners in Sac" ship has sailed.

That kind of worried me when i saw the Jackson thing too. There's no reason to bother trying to muzzle him at this point unless they plan to file and don't want him further "damaging" their image.

Not according to Peaches, lol. He insists that the Maloofs would have no problem coming back to Sacramento and they won't sell no matter what.

Don't think that would stop them. These guys are obviously extreme narcissists who think the NBA revolves around them.

Aren't the Maloofs pretty much out of the end equation? Either it will be them staying here a year, and not being financially viable so they have to sell to a guy like Burkle, or they go to Anaheim where Samueli will eventually take over the team. The only reasons it would seem they prefer Samueli is because of the bailout money they'd be getting and, of course, their pride. The BoG sees this game is thinking do we want Burkle in Sac or Samueli in Anaheim? Of course, there's the option of the NBA buying the team and waiting after the lockout, just to delay the decision a year.

I think this, too. The Maloofs are apparently adamant about not wanting to "return" to Sac.

Agree 100% Great post

Don't know for sure. A few reasons might be that they are still trying to lobby enough teams to get a majority vote. Although the numbers there look pretty bad. Or more likely they could be going all in to force the NBA to increase their offer to buy out the team. They probably have been told that moving won't happen and the NBA's first preference is for them to give Sacramento the extra year. I also bet that Stern held back Burkle and vetoed a sale and move for Samueli. So with little leverage, Stern can put out a cheap offer to buy out the team. The Maloofs don't like being lowballed by the league and are trying to take this as far as they can before selling.

Or not. :)

Doesn't it come with a fee of something like 200K? They borrowing that too?

Randy Youngman said on Grant's show that he's heard the fee could top 150 million. Combine that with the 77 million they have to pay Sacramento and you could be talking well in excess of 200 million.

the filing fee, not the relocation fee.. I think the filing fee is 200k.. Not totally sure but I know I heard that number somewhere.. Probably here on KF at some other time.

That's not what I mean. 200K filing fee just to file for relocation

I don't think so. I haven't heard of such a fee anywhere. However, both Youngman and Grant agreed that they hear $150 million relocation fee. That may include payments to the Lakers and the Clips, I don't know. They owe Sacramento around $75 million and I think they owe the NBA about the same. Now the NBA doesn't have to demand repayment of their loan, I suppose. That's still $225 million relocation fee and payback to the city.

One of these threads cited a source saying the current value of the Kings is about $350 million. The Maloofs share of that value is 53%or $185.5 million.
