SIGN A SHOT BLOCKER thread

this is ridiculous
i mean duncan just tossed layups in there like nothing...
guys penetrated and just layed it in without hesitation...

Petrie....why the hell did you let justin williams walk??
why?
WHYYY???

I'm game.

I really don't think that a shotblocker would help against Duncan, but it would help the damn penetration!

yeah, that's it. STart a thread - call it official - and call for Petrie to sign a shotblocker.

And then, when Petrie is able to sign whatever dreg shotblocker is available, who will you blame when the defense still collapses, the Kings forget about passing and try and play one-on-one for extended periods and still lose?

Geez...

BTW? This isn't an offiical thread.

If he could I'm sure Petrie would pull one out of you know where and sign it, but that just isn't happening, people think there is someone just some gem sitting on his couch waiting to be signed...

Unfortunately there isn't anyone that will help our deficiencies in the middle, ultimately. But getting Brad back sometime would help out a little, and that's at least better than nothing.

I don't think the problem is just the lack of shotblocker. Many might disagree with me, but I think the perimeter defense needs help, too. You might worry about having no shotblocker to stop the penetrator, but I say letting the opponent actually penetrate inside is more of a problem. True, Tony Parker is a good penetrator, but Bibby has been also letting the other point gurads just manhandle him. Not sure what is wrong with him, but Bibby has to start cutting off his man. Even with a shotblocker to guard the inside, all would be moot since the opponent's point guard would just pass the ball to his PF or C underneath the basket.

The problem tonight was we were playing the San Antonio Spurs. At one point, Jerry and Grant commented upon their poise and how well they know each other. People need to think about that more than they may have already. That's a cohesive TEAM out there, not players still trying to figure out their roles, etc.

We're a bunch of disconnected parts; the Spurs are a team. Tonight pretty much made that abundantly clear.

People need to get over Justin Williams. If he was as good as some of you think, they would've kept him, or some other team would've signed him as a free agent. Instead he is in the NBDL, because that is where he belongs right now.

They let Justin Williams walk because he (like Loren Woods) is a no-talent bum.

If you are a shotblocking specialist and you go into camp with a team that has absolutely no shotblocking presence and you get cut from that team (especially if you had a guaranteed contract already) then you're not good enough to cut it at the NBA level.

The real question is: Why did the Kings spend so much money on John Salmons after drafting Quincy Douby to add into an already deep backcourt?

Kev.in - Because Quincy Douby is, at best, a work in progress and Salmons has, more than once, showed at least a modicum of court sense and talent?

I think the last couple of games have answered why. We need him back just as bad as Brad. Well not as bad, but you know what I mean.

Read this. Nuff said. It's going to take time for this team to get things together.

But we could still use some beef in the middle. :p

I'm with VF. People need to stop freaking out when we lose. This team clearly needs time before it can seriously think about contending with a complete team.

that is a great point

duncan, manu, parker, bowen. those players have been together at least 3-4 years, with pop at the helm.

bibby is our longest tenured, we have a new coach whos still getting to know our players strengths and weaknesses. we have players that need time to get in sync with each other. our starting 5 have never played together ( mike, kevin, ron, SAR/thomas, miller)

it's just going to take some time.

We don't need a shotblocker as much as we need just a big, tall body that can match up with people on the defensive end. Someone that can grab boards and harass anyone coming into our paint. Not exactly a dime a dozen.

We need both.

The big interior defender able to look a Duncan in the eye, as WELL as the big shotblocker able to deter the Parkers and Davises from just scooting to the rim at will.

Be best to have both in one body of course. Actaully be best to have two of them.

Yeah, yeah, yeah..............we need a big shot blocker in the paint...just like every other NBA team.......just like every MLB needs great starting pitching and a great closer.........just like every NFL team needs an Elway arm.......now go find one - well that's just the trick now isn't it.

I disagree. A shotblocker won't be able to stop a guy like Parker from throwing up rediculous tear drops, or prevent him from getting to the line. And Parker isn't even the best at what he does. My point, I would rather have a guy that won't take many fouls while dishing out severe bruises to everyone that goes to the hoop. Someone who will alter shots based on fear.

are you kidding me?
kenny thomas looked like a kid when he was guarding duncan...
his neck almost broke when he TRIED looking him into his eyes

i STILL dont understand why we cant even TRY to play potapenko...
he is 285 and 6'11 for GOD'S SAKE!!!
i dont care how bad he is...hes in the nba for a reason and one reason only...he has some kind of talent and talent doesnt diminish over the years
only athleticism does.

He would at least challenge Duncans shot...
rather have that than kenny who even when putting his arms up in the air, it only reaches his solar plexus

we need a shotblocker...
yes our defense on the perimeter is crappy...but its not like were gonna go out and trade bibby, martin, and anybody else who doesnt play D out there

As much as it is impossible to hear...there are teams that need a SF/PF...as much as kenny is undersized...he NEEDS TO GO!
i almost smashed the TV in when he missed the layup point freckin blank

Something really odd just happened. I happened to find the phone number for the "Shot Blockers R Us" store headquarters. And even more amazingly, someone was there at this hour.

Unfortunately, it seems as though the latest shipment of Shot Blockers has been delayed. Something about having to make room for PS3 or something?

;)

So basically you think Petrie just hasn't realized we don't have a shotblocker and that you, on the other hand, have come up with the solution?

Please...

I am so heartily tired of the mythical "there are teams that need a SF/PF" routine. Hello? If there was such a team in dire need of a player, don't you think they might ... oh, I don't know ... pick up the phone and call Geoff Petrie? I mean, I don't have his phone number but I know people who do and I'm up here in the middle of a forest two hours away from Arco.

The simplistic idea that there are players out there and Petrie, for whatever reason, is just refusing to get them is just silly.

Are there any retro Theo Ratliff robot life-like lookalikes for sale?

Is there any western conference team that don't have better shotblockers than we do? All of them except for Seattle have at least one who is better than our best, and as a team, our spot in last place in the west seems very safe. A bunch of teams, like Philly, Orlando, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas, San Antonio and Washington have at least 2 who are better than our best. Milwaukee is threating to bump us out of 29th place in the NBA.

So almost everybody but us seems to be finding them.

the biggest difference is that every team HAS a starting pitcher and a closer
every NFL team doesnt need an elway arm
look at the bears...they got grossman throwing 300 yds one game and then throwing 3 interceptions, 0 tds, and barely tipping the 100 yd mark...yet they are on top of the nfl

and i never said....oh petrie there is so and so who is on the market...go snatch him
my desire to express my concern that is haunting this Kings team is pretty self-evident
we NEED a shotblocker.
we dont have ONE shotblocker
every nba team has at least ONE that has the ability to alter a shot and if they dont, they either have the same or worse record than we do

The point you're totally missing is you're NOT the first person on this board to make this comment. Or the second. Or the 315th. You're pretty much preaching to the choir about the lack of shot blocking presence on the Kings at this point in time. What I - and some others - continue to try and point out is there isn't a surplus of them out there AND the teams that do have them aren't going to let go of them for anything they don't really need.
