At a glance: “Pointless self-sabotage” isn’t what any NBA team strives for, but that’s exactly where the Kings find themselves after a disastrous turn of events. Everything was going along smoothly – the franchise put together its best month in years in November – before new owner Vivek Ranadive cashed in some of his goodwill for saving the team from relocation for a vanity project.

Well deserved.

We are nicer here to Ranadive than SI was. He was mentioned 6 times. PDA and Mullin? Zero.

Some of us, myself concluded, allowed Vivek's smooth shifting of blame to PDA to change the narrative slightly. National media seems to know where the buck stops.

They're probably right.

Interesting.

wow ... well deserved roasting of Vivek... wow .... again wow! haha thats awesome! "jazz hands" I supported firing Malone but "only" if they had a plan to say bring in a Karl like replacement ASAP! going with Ty and the firing now has been absolutely one of the dumbest things I've seen outside of the Lakers going with Mike Brown for a few weeks then Marc D.

You know what? This is not fair, IMHO. Vivek was invited to attend the economic summit by the Indian Prime Minister AND by the President of the United States. Sometimes you guys need to get your priorities straight.
I'll second this. I'm not happy at all with the state of the team but would one of us turn down the honor. This puts a dirty taste in my mouth, but the simple truth is, political favors/favorites are valuable. If you don't think that there was powerful political forces supporting the Kings cause behind the scenes (during the relocation saga), I don't know what to tell you.

Can't wait for the thread that collects all the Midseason F's the franchise receives from various media outlets.

I doubt this is the only one. I find it hard to make any argument for anything but an F.

If I wasn't blocked from their twitter accounts I would send this to Leslie and Vivek, but I was just stating the same things (not in a mean or rude way) already. Maybe someone else would like to try?

****er should've declined and said his team and fans were more important

I keep hearing that there was more to the Malone firing than anyone is stating publicly (especially fireplug, on twitter, seeming to hint it was based on values or character/morals of the team or something). But I have yet to see any reasons given or any indication from the front office that it was anything other than "pace" or "style" which makes me think it is just something they don't want to discuss and they would rather just insult the fans with the ****-poor excuses that PDA and Vivek dish out. So what is it? Power struggle? Other issues? Malone kicked puppies and killed unicorns? Why aren't our esteemed Jason Jones or other journalists digging a bit to see what the truth is?

Most indications are that the final straw was when Malone came out publicly and made a comment about his lack of belief in analytics, saying "analytics doesn't win basketball games. Defense wins games."

I'm sure there were other reasons, but I'm also sure no team ever airs all the reasons a coach is fired. My best guess is that when Malone drew the line in the sand, it was the one act they (and not honestly sure who "they" was at this point) would not allow to go unpunished.

Maybe they should have just let the guy coach the team and not tell him what he needed to do as was reported....they overstepped their job description.
