Shaq traded to Cavs

at this point, shaq's worth is measured entirely in twitter status updates...

he just isn't the kind of sidekick lebron needs. lebron is still good enough all by himself to catapult the cavs into the top 3 of the eastern conference, but i agree with brick, this thing's prolly gonna end with a gigantic ****storm of fingerpointing and firings. danny ferry has gone about building around lebron in a truly perplexing way. he brings in old guys WELL past their prime with the hopes that they have just enough left in the tank to get 'bron over the hump. big z hasn't been able to do it. ben wallace certainly couldn't do it. shaq may just have been the most dominant center in the modern nba, but those days are so far gone that pairing him with lebron is probably going to be more frustrating for 'bron than relieving...

lebron is basically a 30, 8, and 8 guy. he scores in the paint and he's a fantastic rebounder at his position. he makes things happen on the court. he just needs solid complementary players around him who aren't with one foot in the grave. that's it...

Never liked this from the Cavs perspective, still don't. Its splashy, but another one of these inept moves by Ferry bringing in old guys based on past rep. Such a risk too -- if it doesn't work out, LeBron might very well say screw you. If it does work out, then Shaq retires and LeBron might still say screw you. Meanwhile Shaq's megaego is in there banging around with LeBron's locker room, and expectations are raised even higher through the roof for the casual fan that just knows the Shaq name, rather than game. At the very least if they fall short again its probably curtains for Mike Brown, assuming Shaq doesn't kill him early the way he did Van Gundy.
I agree with what you are saying but ultimately, Shaw's massive contract runs out at the end of this season allowing the Cavs to be major players in the sweepstakes to get Chris Bosh or some other big time player alongside LeBron next year. And meanwhile, at worst Shaq will sell tickets and draw tons of media attention - at best, who knows, he just might work out in this one year situation.

They traded Ben Wallace and Pavlovic for Shaq. Both Ben Wallace and Sasha are straight up trash. So they gave up 2 pieces of trash for a guy who doesn't have to dominate anymore. They don't even need him to dominate. They will get Hickson back as well next year.

if the cavs can somehow get a decent pf they will be fine. i can so see rasheed signing with the cavs for part of the mle or possibly seeing the cavs make another trade for a pf. even without shaq the cavs will be fine during the regular season.
