Shams Bomb! Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder traded to Cleveland in 3 team deal. Kings acquire De’Andre Hunter

If the object is to rebuild, this deal does absolutely nothing for the Kings. 👎 But there's time yet for clarity to arrive. Any potential follow-up deals will tell the story. have to say, though, I'm really not stoked that Perry needed to attach Keon to this deal just so he could dump his "marquee" off-season signing that nobody wanted him to bring onboard in the first place.

Nothing about the way the team has been run this season screams rebuild. Not whatsoever. The bet should be on them attempting to compete again next season and shooting for '27 cap space. This cleared so very little of anything but anything is better than nothing at this point I guess.

How is this a good thing
Because if we stay at the 1 seed, our most likely pick is going to be Flemings. It is really really hard to get wing type players and we before this trade had a Grand Total of 1 long term full sized wing (Keegan). Now we have two of them.

We shall see how the rest of our roster plays out but guards are the easiest to replace versus forwards. The roster is more balanced going into the draft so we can take best player available and not have the cluster **** Monte created.

We are not attaching Keon to dump Schroder. Why would we need to do that? We are not an apron team nor do we pay the tax. It would have been cheaper just to bench Schroder if Scott viewed the signing as a mistake. We made the trade (for better or worse) because we want Hunter ( who is a better player than Keon). Hunter was traded to the Cavs for 3 second rounders and 2 swaps not long ago by the way and that was viewed as a big win for their season last year for what it’s worth.

I don't view Hunter as a major asset but it could be argued that if that was a target all along it played out how they wanted it to. The Schröder signing made zero sense other than the fact that Keon, Keegan and Schröder all had the same representation.

It never made sense to me that we signed Dennis and Russ. But I also know that the Dennis deal was done with getting Kuminga in mind, originally Monk was shipped in the deal and for some reason we opted to do it with TPE.

Right now I really hate this.

Yeah, this is another talent grab if they want to keep him. It's kind of like the LaVine trade but easier to swallow considering what's going out. Hunter and Keegan is an interesting pairing and I was wanting to see it a few seasons ago, but that was on a team not in the cellar like this one. Lots of length but not a lot of athleticism there at the F spots.

Hunter being a "better player" than Keon is a questionable assertion, at best. He's certainly not a better defender.

This is ice cold comfort, if that's the case. Why should De'Andre Hunter have been a target for this Kings team? What does this move do for... anything? For the possibility of a rebuild? Or even for the possibility of competing? Hunter gets you nowhere, so as I said, unless there are follow-up moves that offer clarity, right now this is just a bunch of rearranging deck chairs. We'll see what Perry has next.

Why are you assuming our draft pick 6 months before hand? Hunter is pure hype living off potential people want him to reach Atlanta and Cleveland both traded when they were both in playoff contention. You say it’s hard to get a big wing which it is so why is he being passed around

yeah clearly Hunter was a target either for ourselves or for a move down the line. I'm concerned with why, but at least we theoretically get the best player in the deal. Keon could turn into that if played correctly but he could also get paid and still wind up a 12mpg guy. I don't expect that but why the hell did he never get a chance to when we were trying to win. If he blows up there will be tons of blame to pass around but Mike Brown will get most of my ire.

I guess, to be fair, Hunter is an actual player upgrade, even though he is having a down year.

He does absolutely nothing for the rebuild though.

If that returns two FRP it becomes way easier to swallow because shipping Sabonis at least proves we are all in on maximizing this season at the bottom. But lord, I just know we're going to wind up disappointed.
I think everyone’s expectations are too high. Hunter and Keegan are great wings to have, Hunter a better shooter than Keegan, and Keegan a better defender than Hunter. They’ll complement each other. Bring in Peterson or Fleming, all of a sudden things start looking really different. This draft will have a lot of top tier 1s and 2s so we’ll have our pick of whoever fits the team the best. Not sure I trust Perry but I can at least see a coherent structure

The Kings are the Kings. Lazy. If they can skip steps they'll skip them no matter what and more often than not fall flat on their face. This deal doesn't diminish 2027 possibilities so there's likely still a goal with that in mind. The Kings youth are all older so that will line up to where they would likely want to compete by them for sure.

This definitely puts a nail in the idea of Kuminga though.

As of now I've clearly said I'm not happy and none of this makes sense to me. Beyond that we now have two open roster spots for other trades (one of which is presumably Cardwell at some point when we're done dealing).

I am just trying to speculate. I think whiffing on Kuminga who we've probably moved on from was a major fail that spurred most of this.
