Scott Perry is the new GM of Sacramento Kings

I'll concede your point that they matter a lot. I'll take the longer wingspan every day if it comes attached to a competitor who plays both ends of the court. But then I'll also re-emphasize that those measurables don't mean a lick if you don't care enough to work hard, don't pay attention to scouting reports and learn your opponent's tendencies, can't process defensive sets at game speed, and do things like jump on every ball fake where your athleticism takes you out of position. There's a happy medium somewhere of having good NBA size for your position and also the mental acuity to know how to use it. Looking at the combine results spreadsheet is no substitute for actually scouting players playing 5 on 5 basketball.
I don’t think we disagree. But if your opponents find a lot of guys with length and BBIQ and you don’t then you are perpetually a play-in team.

Here is where we may disagree….

Finding those guys is typically hard. The easiest way to get them is the way we got Murray….. have a top 5 or so draft pick. The fact the Kings have refused to tank for even post all star break is part of the reason we don’t have many of those guys.

Y'know what? I'm in full agreement with you on both of these points. The crankiest I get as a Kings fan is typically in the 2 month window of time when it has become clear that this team is going to sneak into the playoffs at best and the end of the season and it's almost always because our loveable losers keep banking meaningless end of the season victories which never ever in 20 years have carried over to the start of the next season. Not even once.

You REALLY are stuck on the Zion or bust train, aren't you? You do realize that there are well over 500 other players in the league, don't you? Find one of them to drool over, perhaps?
Is this just a text size issue with the new forum version? I don't know how you could read what I've written in this thread and think I'm really high on Zion.

Zion is a win win in the 3 year time frame( so long as we keep our picks). If he breaks down, our picks become 10 times more valuable. If he's somehow healthy, then that will be a lot of fun to watch
If this sounds reckless, keep in mind we are already betting the team on Zach Lavine's health
I'm saying if Zion doesn't work out, it won't bother people in the long run, because it'll just be another sucky season amongst many. It'll just be flushed down the memory hole, along with 3 out of the last 4 Sabonis seasons.

But what it could be, is a trampoline for the team's future success. Trampolines are fun!
I'm advocating for rebuilding the team, because I think making the cut for the playoffs is the bare minimum for acceptability. If we're below the cut, we better have a plan for getting better.
Again, I don't think Zion will succeed. I think if the deal is right, he will fail in a way that will benefit the team.
I'm in rebuild or bust mode. But I accept that the front office doesn't want to acknowledge a rebuild. What's appealing to me about the prospect of a Zion deal is that it could offer the FO plausible deniability. At first I was worried it was too blatant, but despite all that I've written plainly, you still seem to think I want Zion for his basketball ability. Maybe it would work after all.

There's been 17 years of agony with 3 positive years for the past 3. Now you want agony again. Tell you what, people that have been paying 10-20k a year for tickets dont want more agony. And a rebuild at this point will lose season ticket holders.
I have grudging sympathy for STHs who were blindsided by the Fox trade demand. So I can forgive the Kings for trying to piece together a playoff run to try and fulfill the expectations of those who bought in early (even if that attempt failed)

However, I don't care about people buying tickets for 17 years. To paraphrase Hunter S Thompson, "you buy the ticket, you take the ride". I don't know how much the FO cares about STHs, (it's apparently at least enough to give lip service about not rebuilding. ) But I think that relationship should stay between the STH and their representative. I don't need to hear about it. I don't think STHs have a veto against personnel moves.

In that weird period in the 2010s when the Lakers were bad, they were still ~ 10th in the league in attendance, I think in large part because they had Kobe, and Kobe could occasionally still do something amazing. That's why I think Zion, in his very limited availability, could soften the blow of rebuilding. He's the spoonful of sugar that makes the medicine go down

What if Zion plays 50+ games the next 2-3 years and we didn’t wanna take a chance on him like we will even sniff anyone close to his talent any time soon. Would be a kangz move huh

What if the Kings traded for Zion and he played his standard 24-30 games per year (most years of his career) at $40 million per, we actually win fewer games per year, the fans quit buying tickets because we aren't as competitive, and we still don't nail any high draft picks?

Would be a kangz move huh?

That is a MUCH more likely scenario. I'm not saying your version can't happen but the odds are stacked against it.

Ya this scenario still beats running Sabonis, Keegan, Lavine as our best players. In this scenario Zion misses 30 games and we pick 5-8 the other scenario we’re missing the playing-in games and picking 10-14. So ya I’ll take my chance finding talent earlier in the lottery than later if Zion is a bust

So, what if that does happen. What would be the consequences? The Capt's russian roulette analogy is pretty stark, and very... terminal. So what if your worst case scenario comes to pass?

What are you afraid of?
