Scott Perry is the new GM of Sacramento Kings

Dallas can contend next year and Phoenix could get a haul of picks and young talent for KD/Booker we’re in a worse spot then both by a country mile

The Suns aren't trading Booker. Ishbia already said that. And they'll get something for KD, but I doubt it's a huge haul given that he's 36 with a significant injury history. His final contract could end up being an albatross.

The dude has also sorta accumulated the dreaded locker room diva label. I don’t think the Suns are going to be able to get two of their own picks back from the Rockets for KD, let alone all of them. And who knows what other teams are even going to have to move for him.

Scott Perry is a very impressive man and General Manager. My hope is he is able to work well with Vivek and hopefully to able to cnvince the owner in the way he wants to do things is better. He is great at communicvation so I think he is a good person to be in that position. Hopefully he see's Doug as the type of coach he wants and is able to make the decision. If so hopefully he brings in a top group of assistants and has a great staff that works together in the front office.

I think this is exactly why an actual HC search should happen, even if Doug is the front runner. I thought he did a very good job this year. If the Fox drama doesn’t happen, I could have seen us winning 45+ games which would have been a great accomplishment. But he also didn’t have his own staff and couldn’t really implement anything new - especially after the Fox trade. So I think that’s why we ended up with the simplistic iso ball so often (in addition to the poor roster construction/fit of Deebo/Levine/Monk). I really don’t have a great feel as to whether Doug is a good tactician or not. Let him interview, give his vision for the team — short and long term. Does that fit with Perry’s vision? If so I’m perfectly fine with him a coach the next couple years at least.

Maybe but 45 < not losing value on Fox. 45 wins is still in the muck of the pretenders of the West. Wait until the summer and that value is down regardless. Now that a bunch of other names might be hitting the market especially so the time to get out was definitely then with how out on the organization Fox actually turned out to be.

Forget Christie as HC. He's the sentimental fan fav. I get it. But he's a trainee and if the org wants to be viewed as something other than a laughingstock they need a guy who has worked for years in coaching. It's so Mickey-Mouse Kings to have Christie as HC. Divac as GM. Peja as scout. Christie as HC. Stupid, stupid, stupid. (I feel grateful that Webber isn't our new GM). Do a reverse Peter Principle and have Christie go back to entertainment. He was good as the analyst on the Kings' broadcast and on the radio. Give him a seat next to Vlade and Vivek for the games. Drop-kick Katy to the Lassen Volcano and it's a win-win for the viewing audience.

If things are changing, it should be up to Perry whether Christie stays or not. If Perry doesn’t want Christie then Vivek needs to let Perry do his job.
I would hope that this has already been discussed since Perry knew he was going to have the job a couple of months ago. The fact that Christie hasn’t been announced as the head coach, as of yet gives me cause for concern. I feel like there are negotiations going on for a new head coach instead of Christie or it would have been announced already. I don’t know, I’m just so used to the kings making knee jerk reactions without doing any real planning or due diligence that I’ve come to expect some ridiculous decision. Whatever happens, I would like to see Doug get at least a full year as the official head coach to see what he can do with some stability in the front office.

I think Christie has earned a contract. But if he doesn’t get the job it contradicts the doomsday story that Monte wanted to replace him, Vivek wanted to keep him, and Perry is being brought in just as a yes man to do whatever Vivek wants.

We've had coaches that have had years in coaching lol. And still were a laughing stock

Christie did a BETTER job than Brown did this season at the HC spot at the end of the day.

It's possible but what big money would be required for an assistant anyway? People always say that about Vivek spending money but then there goes Vivek, flushing more money down the toilet, lol. The dude didn't even like Brown and still let Monte give him a fat payday.

At the end of the day the Kings got shellacked by the 10th team of the West. Perry is going to have to clean up the mess he's inherited as well as forming a plan for the future.

Why pose the either/or HC vs assistants problem to begin with? If you want professional competence hire an excellent HC AND pay up for excellent assistants. This is business. Not a trip down the sentimental lane.

If Perry can't dismantle this team like he wants, including sending Christie back to 1140 AM, then it will tell everybody that Perry is handcuffed and is being micro-managed by Vivek and we'll be back at the beginning..

My comment had nothing to do with the decision to trade Fox when we did. Only pointing out that Christie probably has a significantly better win percentage if Fox wasn’t traded and he didn’t have to figure out a new group of players that clearly didn’t mesh.

Not that Christie is going to be some great coach, but you're giving him zero credit for what he did accomplish and for the fact that players actually like him. Even with the horrendous schedule towards the end and injuries he finished his run above .500 at around a 44 win clip. You act like Christie came in and the team fell completely apart. No, he got it when it was falling apart and patched it together the best he could. What Christie did is typically a sign that he might have a shot at being a really good coach.

Personally, I wonder what would be the justification for Perry not to hire Doug? Because if he didn't even consider him because of Vivek or media outrage that sounds like prejudice, which is even worse. If it's down to an interview? Don't bet against Doug. He'll knock that out of the park because he'll be what you want or need him to be. This is why he's so politically tied in. The good news is he sounds like the real deal. If he weren't he wouldn't have the rep he's had dating back to his playing days.

Doug is the perfect coach if a) we want to attempt to salvage what's left of what we have and b) if we go full rebuild. Team player, preaches defense.

In scenario A we really need an assistant coach who is an offensive savant that can make Domas and Zach work. In scenario B he's just trying to focus young players on fundamentals until we are ready for a homerun. Fundamentals and draft picks. I can live with that.

I rank him ahead of Chauncey who against all odds won an extension in Portland.

The team had no ball movement Doug was in over his head on the offensive end. We need an experienced coach so Doug can work on that as an assistant

If Christie got demoted, I wouldn't mind if he get back to broadcasting. I like when he's with Grant Napear back in the days but now with Jones, that ain't bad. Remove Katy and have her as a side reporter or post game show.

We already have Morgan for the pre- and post- shows. She is way better at it than Katy on her best day. Plus she has a sponsored advantage with the HVAC ads.

If they bring in another head coach, you cannot have Doug as an assistant. The new guy needs to have the freedom to bring in his staff. Not have one appointed to him like Brown did.

Well new hope and before we really have time to digest another bad year.
But it’s a time of hope oh wait no lottery pick. Maybe a big trade thing at draft time?

But like many of you I’ll still sign up for NBA league pass in the fall.

Have a safe and happy summer!

We'll see how it goes. The Knicks have had a great squad during Perry's time there, and as others have mentioned he has experience with meddling idiot owners so maybe he can be a Ranadoofus whisperer.

There's 100% going to be a shakeup on the roster this summer though, hopefully with coaching as well (sorry Doug). New management always has to make their mark.

I'm back to sweet sweet apathy unless something interesting happens this summer.

Doug did a pretty good job. He looked fantastic at times and others not. I think he should interview as others have said. I don't know if Malone would interview, we should inquire. We should also interview Jenkins and Budenholzer.

People say the west is so stacked, and it is. But how much longer can LeBron, Kawhi, Harden continue at the top of they're game? There is instability in Memphis and who knows what will happen with Morant. Who knows what will happen with the Nuggets with a new GM and coach?

I think the Kings have some assets. With the right personnel and coaching moves there is an opportunity here. I hope we can take advantage of it.

Doug did well the the cards he was dealt, but my fear is that he may be a little too much of a players coach, in that he had a hard time making the tough decisions about benching guys and balancing out the starting lineup.

If management were to balance out the roster for him, I think he could perhaps do a good job. But is he capable of being “the bad guy” at times when he needs to be? That to me is the big question. We’ll see what Perry thinks soon enough.
