Scott Perry is the new GM of Sacramento Kings

Which may be all the more reason he doesn't want to throw big $ around for assistants, not necessarily evidence he wants to throw good money after bad. Personally, I think it's silly to keep Christie as HC. Also, silly to hire BoJax. Also, don't go down the amateurish path of hiring a legit HC and then telling the HC that he has to hire X,Y,Z as his assistants. Christie probably did a good job for Brown as an assistant, but I think he's seen as more of team mascot around the league than a legit HC with some gravitas. And yes, image is important for this team. Probably more important than for other teams with better reputations. Here's a novel idea: Spend the $ to get a legit HC and give him the freedom to bring in whoever he wants as assistants and hopefully don't fire him after a couple of years.

Christie did a BETTER job than Brown did this season at the HC spot at the end of the day.

It's possible but what big money would be required for an assistant anyway? People always say that about Vivek spending money but then there goes Vivek, flushing more money down the toilet, lol. The dude didn't even like Brown and still let Monte give him a fat payday.

But he is kind of ignoring that some of that was inevitable. The Kings flatlined around the 9th seed. Mike Brown wore out his welcome with some of the locker room. Some of us saw the train coming that the very first year at the deadline. The league was changing, the bar was being raised, teams in the Kings range got more competitive for their exact spot. Monte ran it back but at least did try and fix things I guess. If this is last year the Kings probably end up around 46 wins and the same 9th seed they had at 40 wins this season. So? This team got in the playoffs 1 year and the results said they clearly weren't built for postseason ball. The West got tougher, the lower teams got a little bit more beasted on. Now the smart move is to rebuild, but if not, certainly do not go all in. That could literally take this to another 7-8 year minimum to finally get talent restocked through the draft and get back up and going. The Kings have a window as soon as 2027 if Vivek doesn't **** this up. They should have at most the deadline of next year with a run it back. If it's working THEN maybe go all in.

No big name coach is going to come here with the uncertainty we have. I'd give Doug a 3 year deal with the understanding he coaches to win for the next half a season and if that doesn't pan out he coaches a total reset as a talent development guy and role model before being kicked to a FO job as a thank you for your service.

I think Doug has the personality, conviction, and ability to connect with players to be a good head coach. He will need technical/ strategic support.

If Perry knows what he's doing and saw Devin last night, he looked like one of the ones you don't have to worry about showing up when the games actually matter.

That is the problem and uncertainty when a new GM comes in. These are not his players, so he won’t necessarily keep them around long term.

Hopefully Perry is smart enough to keep the young guys (DC, Keon, Keegan, LaRavia) around and trade those vets that’s not in the long term plans for some decent assets.

Do you believe Scott Perry would come here if he knows he can’t be the one making decisions? I honestly do not.

I hope you are right. He’s well respected and by all accounts has a good working relationship with Vivek. But there’s a possibility that he’s looking at this like hes nearing retirement and will just collect a salary for a few years as Viveks puppet for his last contract.

This. I honestly think this team can be much better with pieces that fit around them, as well as LaRavia, Keon and Keegan. A real training camp and not just slapping 6 new guys together would be nice.

Zach said in his presser that he and Domas only played together in like 15 games or maybe less. Given the center he played with for years in Chicago had a totally different style, it’s no wonder the chemistry wasn’t instant here in Sac.

So now he’s the guy that did this and not Vlade? Or was this before Vlade
He was one of several guys brought in to handhold Vlade. Notably around the 2017 draft. He left for NY after 3 months. Replaced by Brandon Williams who is the moron that pushed everyone towards MBIII. I guess that's probably another reason I'm bitter about his short tenure here.

The caveat is that if Doug Christie is still around, and perhaps Vlade was already "involved" they should already be familiar if not somehow involved with moves that were made.

I'd love to know what our record was with a healthy sabonis and doug christie coaching.

Hard to say what "healthy" is.

22-18 in games where Sabonis started and did not leave with injury
2-0 in games where Sabonis started and left with injury (1 min played, 12 min played in those two games)

We were on the verge of winning and having stability in the front office and then, the wrong trades happened, and here we are with yet another mediocre GM and starting all over again. Here comes TDOS.

It was good while it lasted. To have the feeling of some "hope" was nice.

What's the strategy though? He was very clear when he took over, he wasn't going to put in a new system with that much change going on. He did the exact right coaching move by keeping it simple if the idea was to win games in the interim.
I think this is exactly why an actual HC search should happen, even if Doug is the front runner. I thought he did a very good job this year. If the Fox drama doesn’t happen, I could have seen us winning 45+ games which would have been a great accomplishment. But he also didn’t have his own staff and couldn’t really implement anything new - especially after the Fox trade. So I think that’s why we ended up with the simplistic iso ball so often (in addition to the poor roster construction/fit of Deebo/Levine/Monk). I really don’t have a great feel as to whether Doug is a good tactician or not. Let him interview, give his vision for the team — short and long term. Does that fit with Perry’s vision? If so I’m perfectly fine with him a coach the next couple years at least.

IMHO, I would be fine with Doug Christie as coach next year. I think he has potential to be one of the better HC in the league if given a fair shake.

The new GM would need to balance out this roster with more length and defense to make this team work. But, it shows now, being at #9 after all the tumult with DC as coach, we are not that far from making this team a good playoff team.

Id be ok with this too, but it’s a weird dynamic when the organization/owner has their guy as HC instead of the GM picking their guy to lead the team they put together.

Also if DC is the guy, they need experienced guys on his staff like the Lakers did with Redick surrounding him with former head coaches like Scott Brooks, Nate McMillan in addition to experienced assistants around them.
