So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

I hate the play-in format. I wish it would go back to the old way. If you are in, you're in. No second chances. The play-in format has diluted some of the value and importance of the games played during the season and as long as you hang around in the 7-10 range of the standings, you have a shot no matter what. Not a fan.
I would support it if the best 16 teams get in regardless of conference and only teams above .500 were given a play in.

The way it is now sucks.

Mavs winning I guess is better since AD is out for who knows how long?
Yup! I was rooting for the Mavs tonight. We’re now 2 games away from the 8th seed but I’m going to try and not focus too heavy on that, cuz i do think tomorrow will be tough. It’s hard to sweep a team, let alone back to back games on their home floor. *fingers crossed*

6. LAC 30-23 (.566), - -
— — — — — — — — —
7. MIN 30-25 (.545), 1 GB
8. DAL 29-26 (.527), 2 GB
9. SAC 28-26 (.519), 2.5 GB
10. GSW 27-27 (.500), 3 GB
— — — — — — — — —
11. PHX 26-28 (.481), 4.5 GB
12. SAS 23-29 (.442), 6.5 GB

Games before All-Star Break:

LAC - @ UTAH
MIN - vs OKC
DAL - vs MIA
SAC - @ NOP
GSW - @ HOU
PHX - done
SAS - done

Ironically enough, despite all the permutations we could have seen after tonight, the standings stayed the exact same. Good day for us, everyone below us lost and Minnesota lost to a Giannis/Dame-less Bucks. Dallas won, but depending on how long AD is out, I think fall below us eventually anyways.

Btw, all that talk about Vassell and Johnson - i'm glad we didn't trade for them. Spurs fans want them outta there so bad lol
Those 2 are way over paid for what they do on the court (Vassel $29 mil/yr and Johnson $19 mil/yr).

They got paid by the Spurs like stars because they needed to get to the salary floor. I'm glad they stayed in SA and can weigh down their salary cap space for many years to come.

IMO, Monte probably asked for Castle or Sochan, which the Spurs said no to. The Spurs probably tried to counter with Vassel and Johnson, which Monte said hell no to.

Ultimately, I would much rather have the multi-time All-Star (LaVine) and the 2 unprotected 1st rounders. Thank you very much SA.

Pels with Zion dressed up for the game and Pels with Zion in street clothes are polar opposites. Never seen a player to impact the game as healthy Zion does. Plus - he gets very favorable whistles.
Zach played with less turnovers, Domas lately was not very crisp (quick whistle on him plus troubles feeding him in the post) - point is, Kings have lots of options how to upgrade quality of their play while Pels will be without the Zion and CJ will be on back to back. Kings are healthy, reserves are solid.

I really do hope the Kings take them seriously no matter what and go all out before the all star break. I have faith that coach Christie will make sure they’re prepared.

I like the idea that division winners are in, but slot them into their playoff slot as their record. So say the Lakers won the pacific, but were the 10th best team.. they'd be the 10 seed, not a top 6 seed

Wolves won some tough games coming from behind, but I think we will finish with the better record than them.
Clippers have 11 road wins versus 10 home losses. Clips played 29 home games versus 24 road games. I checked their schedule - 2 long road trips to the East against good teams.
Mavs have Kyrie, GSW have Steph and Butler - unpredictable outcome in any game (expect us ;) ).
Looks like Suns are setting down.
Besides long and frail Wemby and frail Fox Spurs have nobody and are aiming to "soft tank". Keep going.
Houston lost 6 in a row, then they won a game at home against Utah with the comeback in the 4th q. They have problems now winning any game, but their current record and rest games loaded with much more home games and teams that they will play against - are not very good. Sad thing, we have only one game against them ourselves. We can catch them if we go 8-2 or better ;) for the rest of the season and they will do 5-5. Not very possible.
LOS ANGELES LUKAS!!! Just checked their schedule. A nasty, nasty one. They definitely can go 5-5 for the rest of the season or even worse. Lakers will average at least 12 more FTAs than other teams, though that might not be enough.
Rockets #4, Kings#5, Lakers #6 - LET'S DO IT!!!

This.

If you're gonna have it at all, the play-in should only activated if your above .500.

Bulls are 11 games under .500 - how they are eligible (if season ended today) for anything other than the lottery is nuts.

Sure - if you're under .500, whatever team would have played yo just gets a bye.

But yeah, seems to me like the East always has a couple of very weak teams getting in to the playoffs while a couple of definitely stronger teams from the West miss out.

I agree... I love the idea of best 16 teams, being in Aus tho Im not up to speed with the impact of travel would have if a West Coast team had to play an East Coast team in a series.

That's been the biggest complaint I've heard people mention talking bout a top 16 PO. In theory tho it makes complete sense

Looking at the Spurs, I have some thoughts.

Wimbly, and Fox are both the same type of infuriating players.

Both of there advantages are in the paint, yet they do everything they can to play like Curry.

I dont care how good a 3pt shot Wimbly has, he should be dominating in the paint. Instead he is throwing up jump shots and 3s. I dont understand.

This is same issue we had with Fox. Throwing up 3s Instead of attacking.

Wimbly had 17 points yesterday and 1-6 from 3pt. A lot of empty stats because he has the ball 70% of the time. I dont want to say he's over rated, but nobody can tell me he utilizes his height on offense like he's supposed to.

Zion does exactly whar is strenghts tell him to do and he's a animal. When healthy he's a top 5 talent for sure. He's Greek 2.0

People talk about the East/West travel issue, but we played a playin game in New Orleans last year and if we had made the playoffs we would have been playing OKC. We've also previously had playoff series against Minnesota, and this year could have one against Memphis. Given modern travel, and the fact that there is often 3 days between first round games, I am not sure a first round playoff matchup between New York and Sacramento is that materially worse than us going to Memphis this year.

And while I'd favor just taking the top 16 teams, I also think the NBA LOVES the play-in, so I can't imagine they would scrap the play-in in favor of just taking the top 16 teams. I could see them doing the top 6 teams as auto bids in each conference. Then they take the 7 team in the East, and 7 team in the West and make them the #1 seed in each Playin tournament. Then take the 6 next best teams (regardless of conference), and place them snake draft style, with the worst #7 seed getting the strongest #8 seed. So this year's play-in would be:

East
7- Orlando (27-29)
8 -Dallas (29-26 - best remaining team, paired with worse #7 seed)
9- Miami (25-27 - fourth best remaining team)
10 - Phoenix (26-28 - fifth best remaining team)

West
7- Minnesota (30-25)
8- Sacramento (28-26 - second best remaining team, paired with better #7 seed)
9- Golden State (27-27 - third best remaining team)
10- Atlanta (26-29 - worst remaining team)
