Scary Thought(s) Ahead??????

Back Court: R-Mac, B-Mac, IT....
Front Court: Da Big Cuz, Rudy (if he re-signs with us)

How scary will that look on paper, and on the court, down the road?????????

The future looks bright, Kings fans! Hang in there, cuz the end result will be worth the wait!!!!!

Scary? Not yet. But definitely heading in the right direction. Call me silly, but I'd really like to know we have more than 5 players we have faith in. ;)

Let's not forget to add to the mix - a lottery pick in what's considered a very good draft class. Let's cross our fingers and hope it's Embiid (with no lingering back troubles).

Oh geez...

Well there's a legitimate question there somewhere. As well a bit of a problem if Ray and IT are both here next year. We are dead last in the league in assists. There have been some practical effects that will have to be addressed sooner or later.

I'll take later, thank you.

Ray is feeling it and he's growing by leaps and bounds. Right now, I think he has a deserved green light. I didn't see ball-hoggery in full force tonight. I saw a kid taking shots within the flow of the game. He's not gonna be perfect. The idea that he needs to be reined in at this point is ludicrous.

The team has never won when IT takes more than 17 shots. Ray took 22 shots and we won tonight. Does that mean anything? I doubt it but it's interesting.

I almost mentioned that stat. But no, I think all it means is we were playing the Lakers this time late in this season.

Depends on if Malone is actually running this type of offense or not. If Malone isn't then Ray does need to be reigned in, if Malone is then Ray can shoot all he wants. Also, I would think a lot of people here need to apologize to the Pizza Guy for calling him a ball hog (since obviously Malone is running that type of offense here). IMO Yes, when watching the games it really does look like he's telling the PGs to shoot if they cannot find an open man.

People here are a bit overexcited about Ray. He hasn't proven a thing yet. Give it a couple years before we say if he's a longtime King starting PG or not.

Why is Ray taking so many shots? Is the offense geared towards chucking PGs?

It should probably be noted that the Lakers defense was godawful. It honestly didn't feel like our guys took as many shots as they did simply by virtue of the Lakers D floundering for most of the game.

I wouldn't worry too much about Ray being a chucker quite yet. This was his chuckeriest ball game of the year and I thought it was the Lakers largely gave him plenty of meaty open spaces to attack. Against the Pels, most of his shots came in the flow of the game and he still really managed to get his teammates involved/ not ignore Demarcus and Rudy down the stretch.

I'm also willing to forgive a lot of the jittery moments right now seeing as how he's a flipping rookie playing maybe the 8th game of his career featuring significant minutes. And not to keep coming off as excuse guy or something BUT Ray pretty much took the same number of shots as IT usually does (Minus five or six more free throws) in ten more minutes of action.

And, not to keep beating the same dead horse, defensive effort.

Serious question: Are you his mom or something?

Seriously.. People complain that IT shoots too much then everyone is gushing over Ray even though he's taking the most shots.

Have we every won a game this year when IT took over 17 shots? NO. Last time someone brought that stat up it was at like 0-15 or something crazy.

Did the Kings just win 2 games in a row with Ray taking a high volume of shots? Yes they did.

Well i think it's safe to assume we won't get Embiid. So let's just hope that we end up with the "Late lottery steal" that happens every year. Like Damien Lillard, Andre Drummond, Kawai Leonard, Michael Carter-Williams, etc

Ray should start until we can upgrade the PG position. IT coming off the bench like most have thought is a good role for him would be great...assuming he's not going to get an overpriced contract. I'd love to have any of these lottery picks being talked about. Exxum, Smart(love him paired with our existing guys), Embiid(now that would be awesome), Parker, Wiggins, Randle, Gordon, some of the shot blocking bigs, etc....any of these guys can increase our talent base, some of them fit better than others. I sure like how Ben plays with Ray.

Really curious to see how Ray plays against Curry coming up.

Ray has had some good games. Two things he does that make him a good starting PG in my book. One is that he plays good defense. Two is that he often passes the ball early in the shot clock. These last few games he has got the ball back and scored in the flow of the game. Last night against the Lakers was an anomaly because of who was playing for the Lakers and how they played. The Lakers played small ball and their defense sucked. All that said after halftime the Lakers schemed to stop Ray and could not.

GO KINGS!!!

Bingo

Here's the reason why I hate these kind of "stats": The implication is that if Isaiah took one or two less shots, we would have won those games.

Isaiah took 16 shots in a game, perfect! But wait, if he takes one more, our chances of winning are gone

Here's something else to consider: 6 of the games Isaiah took 17 or more shots came when Demarcus sat with injury. Another four games came before the Rudy Gay trade. Now, I haven't gone game-by-game to see what the context of each 17+ shot game was because thats a stupid waste of time. But its obvious context is important.

But here's the rub regarding the number of shots the PG takes: regardless of whether its Isaiah or McCallum, as long as the player is being efficient with his offense and isn't freezing out more efficient teammates, the number of shots is irrelevant. People who are bashing Isaiah and Ray for taking good shots are closeminded about a PGs role in an offense. People who bash Isaiah for it but herald it from Ray are being hypocritical. End of story.

RayMac is just starting to get his game going and if anything, has been hesitant to take open shots or go to the basket on drives. What we are likely seeing is his "breaking out" and getting aggressive, finally. All with encouragement from Coaches. More importantly he is also involving others more in the offense and he is and has been the best guard defender. And he did play 46 minutes!!

What Laker game also showed was being too involved in a new offense can make the team vulnerable to fast breaks and slow transisition defense aka 36 fast break points (but they still lost!).

And that's simply because IT has taken more than 17 shots when everybody else hasn't been able to put the proverbial pea in the ocean. Or does it?

Ray took 22 shots, which must mean he's not a pure point guard. Or does it? Not being a pure point guard, he must not be an appropriate fit for this team. Or does it? And it must mean he's a gunner. Or does it? And his 22 shots accompanying a win must mean the team he played against had the worst mix of tanking mongrels in the NBA. Or does it?

Stats can lie. Sometimes you got to go with the eyeball test. My eyeballs tell me Ray plays good defense and involves his teammates.

Everything else will work itself out with time because these Kings are young:)

That stat is kind of.... Well..... 2 games does not make a trend.

If he can play some Mario Chalmers type defense and have the same shooting %s that he has then I would take it and want to keep him as a starter. It's much more fun to watch a little bit of defense rather than trying to just outscore everyone while not playing any defense at all.

No... 2 games does not make a trend....but the 15+ games with IT was a trend whether it meant something or not.... I see a difference in the offense with both PGs.....the defense from Ray is certainly better than IT
