Hall of Famer
Am I the only one who thinks that waiving him (at least at this point) was not good? Apart from doing him a favor, what does it get us?
As I posted in another thread too, we don't save any money this year, and we still pay him $2M next year. However, we have eliminated the possibility of a team trying to get under the LT and trading us a player with about $6M in salary, and taking back Miki and waiving him for only $2M. Seems like we weren't planning on doing that, which might indicate that we aren't planning to take use our cap to get some nice, cheap pieces.
Here's the deal. If we were going to trade Mikkie and use the full 6 mil, it would have to have been done now, before the trading deadline. In order to save ourselves from paying the full 6 mil next year he had to be released before June 1st, if memory serves. Since we wern't able to include him in a deal, and he's only taking away playing time or sitting on the bench, you might as well just cut him and give him a chance to be picked up by another team.
