SAR our vlad guererro?

this is gonna sound really funny and wierd, but hear me out.

can SAR be our vlad guererro? a guy putting up numbers on a bad team for years that finally gets to shine on a playoff contender that is only about 2-3 years gone from its best years as a franchise(2002-2003)?

That's why I said it would sound wierd. He plays for the angels.

I had no idea who he was, ONEZERO, which is why I asked. Not everyone follows baseball... ;)

I would, quite frankly, rather pull out my fingernails through my nostrils than watch a baseball game.

Thanks, hoopsie!

No comment about the topic because I obviously don't have a clue.

Uh...no.

And while this might be spending more time on this than is really called for, here's why:

Vladmir Guerrero was one of the very best in MLB before Montreal dissolved. Pretty much as good as any player in the game. The equivalent of a KG or Kobe or something. The difference is that in baseball you can have a KG or Kobe and still be awful year after year after year. A single star has FAR less effect on a team's fortunes than it does in the NBA. One of 9 players, has little direct effect on anyone else in the offensive lineup and only comes to the plate 1 out of eveyr 9 times, amybe 4 times a game, and can really only contribute on defense when the ball is hit to him, and where the pitcher is far and away the dominant figure.

In the NBA if you have a guy at that level, a superstar, very rarely are you going to be less than a mediocre team, and even one year of crappy play throws the superstar status of that player very much in doubt. There are fewer players, and the star can be involved on nearly every play. To bring that home, Montreal basically had KG, they gave him up and the Angels got him, and yes KG as our PF could change things dramatically. But that's not who/what SAR is. SAR has proven he's not an impact superstar. His teams have always lost, and normally lost quite badly. We know conclusively he's not at that level as a superstar capable of carrying his team to wins. He's likely not even a Top 10 PF, let alone a Top 10 player. And there is a very long tradition of players putting up big numbers on bad teams. Can he help? Sure. Be some sort of superstar catalyst/cleanup guy/MVP? Not on your life.

So... actually, he may be more like our Jason Giambi?

Giambi at least played on winners before moving to NY, although as noted in baseball the correlation between great player/winner isn't very high in baseball.

Kg's a pretty high comparison. He's arguably by some the best player in the league. Vlad was never the best player in the league with guys like bonds, pujols, a rod, even griffey if u wanna go back 5 years, etc.....

Can we leave baseball out of our team, some of us really can't stand baseball and are just ready for the season to be over!
VF- we very much alike and that's scaring me!;)

Vlad, Giambi, and Junior were outstanding players on their way to the Hall of Fame before they ever changed teams. Although Abdur Rahim has been good, he has never been close to that quality type of player.

He's more like our Mark Grace.

Does that mean that we will win championship this year, like Grace with Arizona? ;)

No worries it not real baseball any way Vladplays in the AL.

I have never ceased to be bemused as to why people would actually want to pay money to see a pitcher hit -- they are basically amateurs. Kind of an artificial score suppresant -- 8 baseball players, and then one guy trying to figure out which end of the bat is which and who could be built like Jim Abbot and still get to bat so long as he could pitch.

Babe Ruth an amature?
Dave Parker?

Sorry what is artificial is keeping a sterroid pumped up player on the roster who's only function is to hit home runs but can not play a real position (Giambi) The Devils last act on earth was the DH.

Absolutely!!! The game is 9 players that have to play both offense and defense. How about we stop every NBA game after every turnover so the offense and defense can change players? Football anyone?

You mean "steroid pumped-up" players like Rubén Sierra? All 6'1", 215 pounds of him? Or maybe 6'0", 215-pound Carl Everett?

I think he's more like our Susan Lucci (comment inserted for the non-baseball fans, who undoubtedly know the meaning of the above comment)
