I agree totally and can add. He had numerous run-ins with Vince Carter, Rafer Alston, even Jose Calderon - the first two no fun for anyone. Sam Mitchell somehow won Coach of the Year in 06-07, but was then thoroughly out-coached by Stan Van Gundy in getting bounced by out of first round of the playoffs that season.
If Reggie Theus wore some very expensive suits, Mitchell goes with a personal tailor fitting him to a tee for many thousands of dollars apiece. I very seriously doubt ever-meddling Maloofs would for a second entertain the thought of Mitchell as head coach - maybe as an assistant. He's a terrible X's/O's guy who coaches more about "his feel" of the situation, and what are the potential match-ups to exploit. Is claimed to be a defense minded coach which was his NBA playing style - but he wasn't that great a D player and his NBA lead teams were certainly not Pop or Jeff Van Gundy like defensive juggernauts.
Simply put, Sam Mitchell has no system, or it's an inconsistent one at best. A mediocre NBA head coach with a somewhat slick resume, but no real record of accomplishment IMO.
