Game 65
Sacramento Kings at Philadelphia 76ers

By Stephen Tetsu, up way past his bedtime and it's all your fault.

Isaiah coincidentally also makes this face when he's told he's too short to ride roller coasters.

Tonight, and tonight only, bear witness to the battle of a century! Movable object versus completely stoppable force. In the clash of incredibly flaccid basketball teams, who will come out on top. Actually, a game against the mighty Philadelphia 76ers may just be what the doctor ordered. Or a deadly trap game. Either way this should be simultaneously fun/painful.

After a couple of games in which he looked like he was starting to understand that there is no rule against passing the ball to a teammate, Isaiah Thomas has reverted back to heroball mode in staggering fashion, somehow turning into a one man team torpedoing machine. When a dude is 1 for 9 from behind the arc, there can be no excuses. What? Did you think you'd start doing much better after shot six or seven? As has been the case over the past several years, Isaiah continues to display a stunning degree of laziness on the defensive end. Yes, we all understand that being severely undersized means he's never going to be a defender like Chris Paul but that doesn't automatically preclude the guy from at least putting some effort into it.

Meanwhile, Rudy seems to be cooling off after his two month stretch of efficiency post-trade. While things haven't quite reached Toronto levels of inefficiency, he just isn't converting on as many of the looks as he was earlier in the year.

Demarcus continues to produce and any night where he doesn't pull in 20 and 10 is at this point a shocking aberration against the norm. Last night against the Pistons, Big Cuz recorded 6 blocks. Even though he isn't ever going to be Anthony Davis, I at least appreciate the extra effort Demarcus seems to have put into affecting more shots in his area.

The bench continues to be Struggle City. After months of relatively solid play, Quincy Acy and Derrick Williams have fallen off a cliff, leaving the rookie Ray McCallum and inexplicably in the rotation bench albatross Travis Outlaw to pick up the slack when the Big Three leave the floor.

The results have been less than pretty but, hey, pingpong balls!

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at things, the Sixers have embarked upon an epic quest to get the number one pick, managing to lose game after game in spectacular fashion. Apparently, the 76ers are named after their PPG for the season.

I could write about their roster but why bother? I sure as hell don't want to spend anytime on Spencer Hawes, Jrue Holiday, or the Sixers' twenty thousand second round draft picks in next year's draft. The most exciting thing to happen in Sixers land was AI getting his jersey retired a couple of days ago (It's amazing his manager gave him the night off from manning the drive through to go to the game. What a mensch.)

All I'm saying is that you know you're a bad team when you unload Spencer Hawes in an effort to actually get worse at basketball.

a potential tragedy in the making. Not only will the fans be up in arms, but imagine what the locker room will be like if the 76ers snap their amazing losing streak against us :(

You know that Hawes and Holiday don't play for them any more, right?

Other than one home game against the Knicks, their next stretch of games is brutal--Pacers (twice), Grizzlies, Bulls (twice), Spurs, and Rockets. This is their most realistic shot at a win for a while.

The Kings could easily lose this game; just continue to play like they have been. Cousins and Gay didn't seem too disturbed about the offense from comments in the newspaper; they just didn't make good shots according to them. If you don't see a problem, it's hard to see a solution.
