Sacramento Bee Kings Coverage

It was just announced on 1140 that Marty McNeal will no longer be covering the Kings for the Sacramento Bee on a day to day basis. The way that he put it, it seems like he has mixed feelings. Though he enjoyed watching some 90 games a year in person, being a beat writer is a young man's job and the rigors of beat writing was taking it's toll after 13 years.

Sam Amick will now be the beat writer, and McNeal will be the Bee's General NBA writer and Online Blogger. Do you think that changes how we will get coverage. I really liked McNeal and his style. He is hip, very open and honest and covered the team without bias.

It seemed recently Sam Amich was doing more of the coverage. That might have been a trial run to see if he made the cut.

The beat writer is the one who reports the actual game, stats, etc. I don't think having Amick do it will be much different than having McNeal do it.

Where style comes in to play is in the human interest-type stories, which are mostly done by Kreidler and Joe Davidson, with some coverage by Amick recently. (He wrote the Kevin Martin piece with the "seat belt" revelation).

If I remember right, McNeal had some ongoing illness in his family. That could also be a reason to not go on the road all season with the team.

Whew!

Understandable. Im sure all that traveling has got to take a toll. Marty will do a great job i'm sure. Ive always liked his interviews on the raadio even if I disagreed with them.

slugking picture is classic. I like Aileen as a columnist, but I have to say she wears that witches hat well. :)

As far as Marty McNeal on the outs, if this is true then this is great news and long overdue, IMHO. His writing style was so jaded and incomplete as to be borderline embarassing. In fact, in the heat of TDOS when there was nothing to talk about, not unlike now, I started a post calling for his replacement.
