When David Stern came to Sacramento in December 2006 for two days of meetings and informal lobbying, he spoke optimistically that the arena situation would be resolved and that the Kings would stay. He flashed the unlit cigar from his visit with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. He said his representative, John Moag, the former chairman of the Maryland Stadium Authority, would remain in town to continue discussions that eventually led to Cal Expo being identified as the best site for a new building.
