My lord -- who the hell does she think she is speaking for here? Its hard to imagine having a worse feel for the general sentiment then she is displaying here.

I agree. Whoever wrote that letter is extremely hyper-sensitive. Oh my lord you flunked a drug test, it's the end of the world, and it completely wipes away his good season? Let me say personally to whoever feels that way...find something better to worry about.
I also believe it was pot, and of all drugs to get caught doing that's the one I care least about. Cocaine, Meth, Heroine, Crack, these are drugs to be concerned about long lingering addictions and affects on behavior. Many of us have tried pot before, and guess what, we're still productive members of society and it doesn't wipe away anything good we have done.
I have an open letter to that writer.

The faux outrage generated by sportswriters over scandals is such a long and stupid tradition.
O how our fragile innocence has been dashed! Until Brad Miller tested positive for using drugs the children were going to have magical futures full of puppies and unicorns but now, sorry folks, they're all going to be heroin addicts. Brad Miller, I hope you can live with yourself. A generation of children will be addicted to smack because of your 5 game suspension.

While it was "only" pot, I am not willing to let this go easily.
Brad Miller KNEW about the drug tests. He is being paid a bazillion dollars to play a freaking game. And yet he has to do something illegal because it's no big deal?
Sorry, but I think Ailene is right. The casual attitude about the illegal use of marijuana is a big part of the problem. RIGHT NOW it's illegal. And people who break the law should be subject to penalty. If you want to legalize it, fine. Legalize it. BUT don't act as though it's a law that can and should be ignored.
I'm very disappointed in Brad Miller. He's involved with Boys and Girls Clubs in Indiana - and what kind of message does this send to them?
Am I going to call for his head or ask for him to be fired? No. But that doesn't diminish my disappointment. What he did was stupid and now he's going to face the consequences.
Having said all that, I do think Ailene let her righteous indignation go overboard. As CDiddy pointed out, the inclusion of references to Iraq, Afghanistan and A-Rod was more than a little over the edge...
