I've been very critical of almost all the trade proposals on here, so I suppose it's time for me to be told what's wrong with my proposed trades.

Sac out:
Ron Artest

Sac In:
Malik Rose (exp.)
Wilson Chandler (young, unproven big)
NY 2008 1st round pick

Why for Kings:
Gets rid of Ron who will likely opt out at end of season. For once make a trade that actually looks like an attempt to start rebuilding. We get an expiring, a young guy who could turn out to be a decent player, and likely a lottery pick in a very good draft. We'd finally be able to have a future to look forward to with Martin, Hawes and the two picks... Not the uncertainty that we all look at the Kings future with now.

Why Not: GP and Maloofs seem to still be thinking we can/should make the POs. Very silly, of course, but the only reason why a team wouldn't do this trade. They want to postpone re-building until the last second.

Why for Knicks:
Knicks have far less reason to do this than the Kings.
Anyhow, they gain Artest who Isaiah likes, and they undoubtedly strenthen their team without losing any contributors/Lee. However, they also go down in history as having the most unpredictable starting lineup ever. In any sports. Did I mention, like, ever?

Why not for Knicks:
A lotto pick in this draft can change the future of a franchise (even the Knicks) if picked correctly. You especially don't want to give it up for an unreliable player like Artest. You lose little talent in this trade if you're the Knicks, but you could also take on a big problem. The fact that their GM is Isaiah works for the Kings in this one.

If that pick in unprotected, then I might think about it, but ultimately still say no. If it's protected, absolutely not unless they take Kenny Thomas back for a lesser contract.

Can I ask why you'd probably still say no if it was unprotected? I'd still do it if it was top-3 protected. It's like trading Ron for Gordon/Mayo/Bayless/whoever and Chandler. Don't see how a team could get a better rebuilding trade than that.

The trade doesn't excite me, but if at the end of the day its the best you can do, fine. I'm not thrilled about Chandler. He's a 6'8" SF who weighs 210 pounds. He's very athletic, but I can name a dozen players around the league that have the same quality's. Besides, we don't need another SF.
I agree that if the pick is unprotected, that would make the deal more acceptable. I would still hold out for Lee. If I can't get him then I deal with someone else.

Agree.. I think the Knics are the only team that Artest will sign an extnsion with if traded to.

If the pick is unprotected I would do it just for the pick (but since salaries have to match up, they can throw in a junk player)

I would consider this a desperation trade for someone of Ron's caliber. David Lee is still on my radar from the Knicks and I suspect that Isiah can't remain immobile when his job is on the line. When the Knicks look to make a run in the east around the deadline then we will likely see some movement. Lee might need to give a little help by asking IT for more PT or even a starting role.

Knicks do not need to trade anything. They are just going to wait till he opts out and offer the best deal.

How can they do that? They can only offer him the exception.. I am not even sure if they can offer that much. they are WAY over the cap.

For only the MLE, Artest can do a whole lot better than NYC.

He also said he'll take less money to join a championship calibre team.

Pick belongs to CHICAGO not NY

NY 2008 1st round pick

????????????????????

How are we going to get NY's pick that belongs to CHICAGO?

You're mistaken, Chicago got the pick swap LAST year and the NY pick outright two years ago...

The Knicks owe the Jazz a pick, but it has a ton of protection on it and the Jazz likely won't see that pick until 2010 or beyond.
