KT + (2nd round pick '09) for Swift and Ager

For Kings: Helps our bid for '09 free agency with Swift(expiring) and Ager(team option) rather than the big 2010 FAs. While at the same time having good enough backups for PF and SG positions for this season. Kings already have 2 first round picks for '09 so the 2nd round would be as good as cut off or tradeable.

For Cavs: Strengthens their bid for the big 2010 FA(the Lebron thing). And can use the 2nd round pick for some more youth. Swift and Ager should be almost non-existent in their rotation having a lot of young bigs a good number of better SGs.

It makes sense, but not a lot of it. NJ has more to offer than 2 of their bottom 5. Trades usually involve impact players, not exchanges that aren't particularly useful because trades move more than just the players, it also moves the family. And, classy organizations like Sacramento are against looking bad in the eyes of it's peers. The W-L colum wouldn't be different for either team, so it just isn't worth the time to make that long distance phone call. KT should stay because the longer his value is low, the sharper his value will increase when it does. Like the stock market.

New Jersey would never do this. Why in the world would they add an extra year of Kenny Thomas when Stromile is expiring this year? For a lousy second-round pick? When they don't even know who will be available there? Second round picks are nowhere near the sweetener required to dump $7+M of lousy contract.

And if they want to set themselves up for the 2010 free agent period, the solution is easy: Don't re-sign Swift. Voila! Salary relief in 2009 AND cap space in 2010!

Seriously, New Jersey would point and laugh if we offered this.
