Sac/Heat and Sac/Portland Trades

here is a trade idea that will help the kings rebuild more quickly... and makes sense for all teams involved....

Kings Trade to Miami #1:
Ron Artest
Kenny Thomas

Kings get:
Jason Williams (exp. contract, 1 year rental)
Udonis Haslem
Dorrell Wright
#20 pick (Draft a PG, i.e. Taureen Green)

Kings Trade to Portland (after July 1st):
Mike Bibby

Kings get:
Zach Randolph

New Kings roster:
PF Randolph Haslem
SF Garcia Jeff Green(#10 pick) D. Wright
C Miller Justin Williams
SG Martin Salmons
PG J Williams T. Green(#20 pick) Price

Zach Randolph SUCKS...I'd much rather have Kenny Thomas playing PF than Randolph....as bad as Kenny is, I don't think there is a worse defensive player in the league than Zach Randolph. I don't even think I'd trade Reef/Kenny for Zach...it's just a BAD idea.

If it were a fantasy game, I would do it.

In a non-fantasy scenario, I'd have to view that as committing to no thorough rebuild for the forseeable future, since Randolph's contract runs on forever.

I don't hate Zach as a player; as Smills pointed out, he has no D. But at least he can rebound, and it's not as if we'd be giving up any D to get him. Replacing Bibby with Taurean Green would be a major upgrade in that category.

We'd probably want to offload SAR in this scenario, since he's much like an older Randolph with dicey knees.

In the end, the most fun thing for me about these trades is the possibility of JWill to Jwill and Green to Green plays. I'm not feeling prepared to commit to Zach as PF into the next decade. He's about to turn 26, and will be making $17.3M a year when he's about to turn 30. Just can't get excited about that. If he were a few years younger, I'd be a lot more tempted, and feel like it was consistent with rebuilding.

So: close, no cigar.

It doesn't really seem that the two halves of the deal hinge on each other. You could just as easily not send Bibby for Randolph. My guess is that Miami wouldn't do the first half, though. As much as they want Artest, he's potentially a one-year rental. Do you give up an ender in J-Will, two young guys in Haslem and Wright, a #20 pick, AND eat KT's contract just to get Artest? As the Heat, I wouldn't.

if the heat won't bite on KT, then we could settle for :

Artest to Miami

for

J. Williams
D. Wright
#20 pick...

we will just keep KT and haslem can stay with miami.... remember, Riley only has shaq for maybe 2 years as a top center, so he wants to capitalize now, before shaq physically breaks down... artest could help him win another ring now....

Much more likely, and given that the Heat are widely rumored to be suitors for Artest that's the kind of deal I'd expect to see.

My guess is that unless we're trading up (for say, Boston's pick) nothing will happen until draft day. We'll pre-arrange possible trades, identify the guy we want, then pull the trigger on the trade if he's still available when the pick comes around.

The only problem I could see from Miami's perspective they would have a huge hole in terms of point guards with only the MLE and the pick we originally gave away for the services of Hart to fill that hole. I am not sure they even have a back-up at the moment for Williams, let alone replacing him and getting a back-up.

why draft another small forward when we'll have garcia and wright after trades?? we hardly have enough time to split atm with all the wing players we have. btw, we still have douby under contract also...

next year will have talented point guards to choose from. i'd rather stink it up w/ alot of young players next season and try our luck in the lottery again. i really like darren collison and derrick rose for the next draft.

we SHOULD have stunk it up this season to have a chance at a better pick instead of this mess we have in our hands. i'm all for getting picks, young players and expirings this summer.

Looking at both teams, I'd almost wonder about something like this:

Miami gives us JWill, Haslem, Doleac, their second round pick (#37, from Orlando), either this or next year's first round... and maybe a few million bucks.

We give them: Artest and Bibby. In two trades, one before the draft and one after Bibby's declined his ETO.

Miami gets pieces they want for another title run, and would probably have a very good shot at it.
We get two enders (both of whom happen to fill needed positions), a decent F, an immediate early second rounder, and cap space. (Maybe we could use the payroll savings to buy out KT's contract.) We totally suck for a year, but our payroll situation improves very rapidly, and we get two first rounders in either the '07 or the '08 draft.

Painful, yes, but by '09 we'd be a better team for it.
