I am personally not convinced that this trade would be a good one, but our hole that the SF position is so big that something needs to be done.
Sacramento Kings send:
Marcus Thorton
John Salmons
T. Outlaw
Raptors send:
Rudy Gay
Steve Novak
Why the Kings do it:
Rudy Gay is a major upgrade over Salmons. Heck, Steve Novak might be an upgrade (I almost threw up when I thought about that). Rudy is overpaid, but his contract ends after next season and thus won't bog down the Kings salary for too long. If he plays well, we could re-sign him later to a reasonable contract for his talent (9-10 million maybe). And Novak shoots threes. MT's departure opens up minutes for the rest of our guards.
Why the Raptors do it:
The Raptors are floating close to the luxury tax. Salmon's contract is non-guaranteed next year (1 million only) and T. Outlaw's contract is one year shorter than Novak's. Rudy hasn't lived up to his contract and Toronto has waited long enough. His PER and efficiency was way down last season so they just might be willing to let him go.
Why the Kings don't do it:
If the Kings have a plan to acquire any major free agents next off-season, then Rudy's contract would make things almost impossible to happen. Rudy is like a not so good Carmelo Anthony (high usage rate) and might not mesh well with our Cousins dominated offense. Rudy seems to be declining, but a change of scenery could change everything. He's only 27 now.
Why the Raptors don't do it:
Makes the Raptors worse for now and they are lacking talented SFs. Raptors are already loaded with SGs and don't need MT.
