Ron Artest Interview

Hey all. Time for a shameless plug!

Ron Artest will be my guest in studio down at Sports 1140 KHTK tonight at about 9:15.

We will talk a lot about his new CD, but of course the conversation will include his life, and Kings basketball. You never know what's gonna happen...

/shameless plug

Wait a second. How do we know this is really CD?

We'll turn on the show to hear the interview but instead there'll be
an egg eating contest, or they'll be doing another pie bakeoff.

:p

I hate the smell of eggs, so that aint happenin...

I've never had a pie bakeoff, but that would be fun to do. I wonder if Ron bakes?

I said it on my show as well, but if there are any questions you would like Ron to answer, let me know...either here or at carmichaeldave@hotmail.com

Ask Ron if he'd ever do a rap battle with Shaq...Like during halftime of a Kings/Heat game or something!

At the very least you should get an interesting answer to that one :P

Ask him how the young guys are working out in the 10-player practices he's organizing. I'd like to hear on the progress of the team. Are Williams and Admunson (sp?) and Woods part of that, and if so, what does he think of their chances to stay? What have his conversations with Muss been like, and can he share anything from them as well about the team or offensive and defensive styles he's going to implement?

Thanks CD I will be tuning in. Can you ask him a question for me? Ask him when he will be killing Bonzi Wells because if you remember he said he would if he didn't resign with Sacramento. :) Or just ask him what he thinks of Bonzi turning down that offer.

It was a good interview. I am sure it will be on CD's website or on sports1140.com soon in the audio archives section so you all should check it out when u can.

Majority of it was about his music career.

Also talked about how seriously everyone is taking next season, likes the John Salmons signing, how Garcia has been pushing him to keep working on his game during the summer. Said the coaching staff was all about defense during the summer league. Gave the Monarchs some props.

It's going to be replayed in 20 minutes, I think.

A LOT was talked about, and it took an hour or longer, so it's hard to summarize it. Listen for a replay or maybe it will be on the CD or sports1140 website.

I didn't hear the beggining, but they played some cuts from the album, CD had him play a word association game, they talked about the arena some and Ron gave props to the Monarchs.

I'm not a big rap fan, but the album sounded pretty good to me. Ron talked about how he grew up with a lot of hip hop artists around him. Music was always a part of his life.

One of the word associations was David Stern. Ron paused for a moment and then laughed, like he knew he couldn't win on that one and so was passing on it.

On the arena Ron said first of all that it wasn't his business. He said he liked playing in Arco ("it's old school") a lot. He also said that some of the new arenas, like Dallas', were really impressive and could make good players want to come to Sac.

He told an interesting story about the Maloofs coming out to visit him in Queensbridge. No cops or anything, they went to several NY ghettos, walked the streets and talked with people. Joe even went into a walk up and used someones bathroom. Ron thought that was really cool.

The interview gave me a sense of Ron's authenticity. There was none of the player BS you often hear in interviews, he kept it real. I came away with it with a new respect for Ron.
