Ron Artest Instruction Manual

#1
kings fans have a new toy....hes quite the special toy and hes capable of taking kings fans thru all sorts of enjoyable experiences....

but, like with any new toy, theres an instructional manual that, if followed, will greatly enhance ur new experience...

failure to do so could result in the warranty being voided and loss of enjoyment...

1. First and foremost, NEVER take anything ron says very seriously. whether good or bad, u are much better off letting it go in one ear and out the other...DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, TAKE ANYTHING HE SAYS PERSONALLY. If he says something that is just totally out and out unacceptable, then know 2 things. One, he doesnt mean it and two he will apologize and retract sooner or later. It never fails.

if u follow only one rule, follow this one, no matter how difficult...its guaranteed to make the experience far more enjoyable...

2. Realize ron has insecurity issues. Not unlike most, he needs to feel wanted and needed. However, not unlike alot of adults and most children, he doesnt deal very well when he doesnt feel these things. So its recommended u dont boo him among other things. I dont anticipate this being a problem in sactown. some of the best, most loyal fans in the league....

3. Realize rons actions speak to the real truth of how he feels. You are about to witness a player that wants to win as much as anyone ever has. Its how he feels good about himself. Hes not a good loser, make no mistake. He takes it personally. If the kings lose, its especially advisable to remember Rule 1. Realize noone plays with more effort and intensity for every minute they are on the floor than ur new toy. For these reasons, when in doubt, give him the benefit of the doubt. I think u will find it easy to do, in most cases. On those rare times its not so easy, just do it anyway and wait till he takes the court again and u will remember why u did.

4. Anticipate there will be something that eventually happens that just leaves u shaking ur head in bewilderment. Its ok. Ron has issues and his mind follows the beat of a different drum than most of us are familiar with. Realize it, dont try to understand it. Trying to do so will only cause frustration.

5. Dont try to rationalize the thoughts of an irrational person. Ron can be irrational. Nuff said.

6. Dont expect Ron to be a leader. Hes not, not in the true sense of the word. However he will lead by example on the court. Expect the overall intensity level to be raised by the whole team. It will happen. Especially on the defensive end. You also can probably expect Brad Miller to regain some of his tough guy image. It was together with Ron that really manifested such. It seems to have disappeared slowly but surely in Kings country.

7. Realize his offensive game is very unorthodox. It will often look like a bull in a china shop. Which is probably a very good analogy. But its become very very effective. He has an incredible basketball IQ. This is often forgotten as one could make a case for him not having the highest overall IQ. Hes capable of being a very good team basketball player.

8. Like all great players, he will break out of the offense from time to time and try to do things on his own. Which can drive u crazy if u let it. Understand it only comes from such a huge desire to win and him having a mismatch pretty much at all times. He does it. All great players do it. Just try to keep it in perspective.

9. Realize ur new toy is far from perfect. Try to understand that despite his flaws u can gain a tremendous amount of enjoyment just watching him play as well as the winning that is a direct result of said play. Its the classic case of taking the bad with the good. There will be bad, but in most cases, it will be far outweighed by the good. Dwell on the good, and u are in for a very enjoyable experience. Noone should be expected to condone the mistakes, just not dwell on them any more than anything else.

10. Hang on. Youre in for one wild ride. Its just like riding one of the greatest roller coasters in the world. It has its ups and downs, and at times it might scare the crap out of u. But overall its just one thrill after another. And the overall experience to the trained rider is unsurpassed.

Thanks, foretaz.

While there is humor and light-heartedness in your post, I suspect there is also more than just a little truth...

One thing for sure. We are not going to be bored.

lol...trust me it was all in fun....and all truthful as well....

u are very perceptive...

let me just say, im really looking forward to watching how this plays out...

as im sure most all kings fans are....

as ive said...its very iRONic that ron is a king, at least for me....

ive mentioned this before...but prior to the fateful interview when he voiced his opinion that the pacers would probably better off without him, he was running up and down the court canning threes and saying, "that would look pretty good in a kings uniform, huh?" to the reporter he later met with...

Though it was all in fun, that was one informative post and has quite a bit of truth in it. At the same time, I must say while his actions may appear irrational to us, there is an reason he acts that way and it appears perfectly rational to him. He already has done one "loyalty" test and the Kings have come through. The Kings have to be smart in dealing with Artest and not repeat the mistakes that the Pacers made.

From the classic "Treehouse of Terror" episode of The Simpsons comes the ultimate in possessed playthings: Evil Krusty! The otherwise well-mannered and beloved TV clown actually has two sides: one good, one evil! Throw the switch hidden in his back, and Krusty switches his five friendly phrases, to five fearful phrases! Krusty features a roto-cast head with a plush body and stands 14" tall. Window boxed, by Playmates

Good Krusty--"I'm Krusty the Clown and I love you"
Evil Krusty--"I'm Krusty the Clown and I'm going to kill you"

So on the court we want "I'm Ron-Ron and I'm going to kill you," and off the court we want "I'm Ron-Ron and I love you very much."

Who's in charge of flipping the switch?

Don't laugh too hard about this post. If I were a Kings fan I would print it out and hang it up for future reference. It pretty much sums up what you really need to do with, for, and to Ron.

I am looking forward to seeing him play again tonight. Finally. :)

I say Brad. Miller has known Ron the longest and probably can take a punch better than any other King.

I agree--its probably Brad. He and Artest go way back and if anyone can say "hey nutbag, what the @!$! are you doing...stop that" its Brad. He was that way with Ron when they were here--at least what I saw on the court.

Brad was on KHTK last night and he said that if he needs to he will tell Ron when to cool it with respect to getting in teammates' faces for not putting out enough effort. Lamb asked Brad if Ron had tendency to do that with teammates when he didnt' think they were playing hard enough. Brad went on to also say that Ron is a great guy.

Unclebuck--I'll be at the Pacers game tonight--do you thing there is ANY chance Peja will suit up??

I'll be there, but no there is no chance he;ll suit up. he's not even here yet and the game starts in about 3 hours.

One other thing about Artest that has not been mentioned. Ron does not complain much to the refs.

Very good points foretaz, and good advice for whats to come. I suggest everyone at Arco hold on to their cups, boos,....and shorts real good, cuz this is going to be a wild "restofseason". :)

I wish I knew when he was arriving...I would leave work and cheer for him at the airport. (and also yell "suit up and play, without JO we are screwed and we need you to go for 30 tonight")

First, thank you for posting your thoughts with us. I will try to follow each and every rule. Especially # 1.

P.S.-Did you fax these rules to the team lockerroom?

Ron is pretty much a loner, he never really socialized with his teammates here in Indiana. He is actually a quiet guy except when he's on the court playing basketball. With rare exceptions when ron was seen around town here in Indy he was with his family, his kids and his wife. I guess what I'm trying to say Sacramento is not getting a menace to society. he might eventually be a menace to the Kings team at some point, though.

I always figure you never really know a player until he plays on your team. I assume most of you that post on this site are like me you watch every game the Kings play, and survey the rest of the league as best you can, watching games as much as you can, but really the Kings are the team you know much better than any other team. So you Kings fans might think you know ron the player, but you will be surprised by him. You will soon wonder why every NBA playr cannot play as hard as Ron does. You will soon wonder why Ron isn't the model every NBA player should follow. But then something happens, and well things fall apart. But there is so much good in Ron the player

I can second that. RA is a nice guy and VERY involved with his family. Our son's play on the same bball team and I've talked with RA quite a few times (our kids also go to the same daycare). He is a nice guy off the court and was involved with picking up/dropping his kids off. Somewhere between the games and when he is with his family, things have gone wrong.
