Ring ceremony-full TV coverage??

#1
Just looked on the Monarchs official site for the details regarding the ring ceremony prior to the game on May 20. I'm not able to go to the game because it's in the afternoon, and I work on Sat. afternoons and don't get any vacation pay. I see that there is television coverage, but it's listed as starting at 1:00PM, when the game starts. Ring ceremony is listed as starting at 12:15PM. Does this mean that there will be no TV coverage of the ring ceremony?? Please let there be! And I don't mean little one-second video blurbs broadcast at halftime, I mean the whole entire thing! Of course, the game is broadcast on ABC, so why would national coverage care about something that is just local. But I really am hoping that the entire ceremony is captured on video and available for me to see somehow. If anyone here has any more details on this, please let us know, because I know I'm not the only one who is unable to attend the game.

I doubt it. The game itself is to be aired on ABC-TV (Channel 10 in Sacramento)

You might recall here on this board during last year's home opener (vs. the Sparks) when there were complaints involving Ruthie Bolton's jersey being hung on the rafters and retirement ceremony took place during halftime. But ABC-TV did not show the ceremony, except for little bits and pieces. Instead, those who were watching on TV got treated to meaningless patter by the announcers, namely Ann Meyers, who probably had to find a way to get Lisa Leslie's name mentioned while Ruthie was being tributed.

And that's why I don't expect the entire ring ceremony to be shown on TV, except for small excerpts. :(

Hopefully, the Maloof Sports & Entertainment company will videotape the ceremony to be shown at some other time, probably during a later game.

Just what I thought, unfortunately. I think I will email the organization and ask if a tape will be available.

I wouldn't rule out seeing some of it on the broadcast. I only have vague recollections of seeing part of the Storm's ceremony - since I do remember seeing Jackson and Bird raising the banner, when their game opened the season last year. The league didn't owe us airtime for the ceremony, and c'mon let's be honest, the Ruthie ceremony did go a bit on the long side so much so they never fully presented her with the framed jersey and flowers. I think the flak they got for it running over was because it wasn't supposed to and the Storm never was informed that it was going to go over and they were cutting it pretty close to the time the 2nd half was supposed to start.

I know I've seen the one of the Lakers' full ring ceremonies on TNT, whether the WNBA follows suit and gets their broadcast partners to pony up a half hour of airtime to show it remains to be seen.

I'm also wondering if the rings they are handing out to fans at the game will be available for sale at the Kings/Monarchs store? I seem to remember someone on here saying so. I'd sure love to have one!

so, show up a little late to work? The rings should be handed out before the ring ceremony at 12:15?
Nope, can't do that unfortunately. I would think that Maloof and co. would have them for sale though to boost their merchandise profit.
