Okay, I apologize in advance if anyone thinks this is a dumb question! Maybe I don't pay close enough attention to the Kings comings and goings. Can someone tell me what happened to Ricky Minard who was drafted to the Kings this past summer along with Kevin Martin?

He was cut in the preseason and is playig in the NBDL. Hes the leading scorer there.

I thought he looked unpolished...maybe that was just because he wasn't used to the Kings offense. I think the NBDL will be good for him.

GREENVILLE, S.C., January 4 –Columbus guard Ricky Minard has been named National Basketball Development League player of the month for games played during December 2004.

Minard, a rookie from Morehead State, averaged 17.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists while leading the Riverdragons to a perfect 9-0 mark during December. For the season, Minard is averaging 32.8 minutes, 18.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Minard, the top pick in the 2004 NBDL Draft, is second in the league in scoring and his 33-point outburst against the Florida Flame on December 2 is the second-highest single-game scoring performance of the season.

Other players nominated for NBDL player of the month included Ron Slay of Asheville, Scott Merritt of Columbus, Ernest Brown of Fayetteville, Hiram Fuller of Florida, Joe Shipp of Huntsville and Cory Alexander of Roanoke.

Minard is the fourth Columbus player to receive player of the month honors since the NBDL began play in November 2001. Sedric Webber earned the honor in March 2004, Tang Hamilton in December 2002 and Tremaine Fowlkes in November 2001.

Wow...thanks for the info! I think he would be an exciting possibility as a future kings after his stint with the NBDL...What do you think?

what about that chinese player lui wei(i think) he was did alright in the china games, maybe worth a shout for next season. could possibly bring in some extra money with games on tv over there

I think Minard is now playing in the Italian League. Probably making alot more money than in the NBDL.

There is a big big difference between a very good NBDL player such as Minard and a mediocre NBA player. Sure there have been a few guys who have made a successful jump to the NBA from the NBDL or a European league, but they are few and far between. If Minard continues to do well in the NBDL I'm sure some team will give him a shot at the NBA, but I don't ever see him being a very productive NBA type player.

Minard had troublemaking palys and was a mediocre passer at best, NBDL might be what he needs to develop his skills at the PG. Liu Wei was a pretty quick gaurd, who could pass but seemed dtymied bythe larger more physical play of NBA players. I can see both of them getting a look this summer by teams that are looking to develop PG's not sure if the Kings fit that description or not. House is comming arround and will not cost much to keep, the Kings are picking up Bobby's option so that is 3 PG right there.
