Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman announced Monday that he is retiring. Adelman was 97-133 in his three seasons in Minnesota and the Timberwolves were 40-42 in 2013-14. "It's time," Adelman said in a statement. Adelman has an opt-out clause in his contract, and was set to make $6 million next season.

Thank you, Mr. Adelman. Really, really appreciate what you have given us Kings fans over our golden years. You were truly one of the best coaches to have missed out on a championship. Hats off to your dedication to the game of basketball. NBA will surely miss a wonderful gentleman on the sidelines.

What? More power to him if he can walk away. If I remember reports correctly, his wife has serious health issues. Maybe he has his priorities correct.

seems like such an unceremonious way for rick adelman to depart the head coaching ranks. he deserved a healthy roster in minnesota that wasn't perpetually underachieving. either way, it didn't seem like his heart was truly in it anymore. it was probably the best decision to get out now. good luck to you in your retirement, mr. adelman. you helped bring the kings' best years to fans who were starving for it. i know that i am endlessly appreciative of your influence over that golden era...

As a Kings fan from long ago and having endured the likes of Reynolds, Bill Russell, Dick Motta, Gary St. Jean et al. before you arrived, I am forever grateful for the the timeless memories of the glory years you brought to our Kings.
