Respect: Do we need it?

correct indeed vlade, but i wasn't banned because of the so called lack of respect for the spurs, ((i never said the spurs suck or tim duncan is a punk; i always gave credit where credit was due)) it was because that i praised the kings and preached my beliefs as to why the kings are or were a worthy team to have the title. they were too pro-spur to accept an individual with their own opinion.

but whatever. i just want a ring.

if you look at a picture of the stadium in SA during the finals, you will see noone wearing the spurs colors. I don't know if that says anything to you, but it does to me!

Queens. How can hearing that NOT pee you off?

Probably for the same reason that hearing an eight-year-old call someone a "poo-poo dooty head" doesn't pee me off, either...

BBB - Whatever. Their fans are loyal, they're enthusiastic and their team won the title. I cannot imagine what "you will see no one wearing the Spurs colors" means. I saw a lot of people in Spurs jerseys, and thought it interesting there were still a lot of Robinson jerseys in the mix, along with the Duncans, the Manus and the Parkers. What exactly did you not seeing the Spurs colors say to you?

I think it depends on your surroundings. I live in L.A., so I get the worst of it. And some of us, including myself, went to school during the kings/lakers rivalry when it was at its most intense. Having gone through this, it really does pee me off to hear "queens". Others, including you VF, that might of have different experiences as kings fans may not find other peoples attacks on your team as insulting as others. So once again, its all on your experiences and surroundings as a kings fan that could determine how things affect you.

If you let it get to you whenever they say "queens," you're doing exactly what they want. You have to quit letting them push your buttons, especially one that is that easy. ;)

No, people talking "smack" doesn't bother me at all. Why should it? I don't go to forums where smack rules the day because it's generally the same people spouting the same nonsense over and over, simply to get other people to respond. Not much to stimulate the intellect in that...

If you are surrounded by people who constantly call the Kings the "queens," then they really need to get new material.

People have to be HUMBLE about their opinions of the Kings? Why exactly? The Kings have not won jack squat. And even if they had, it wouldn't mean people have to get down on one knee and vow fealty.

Defend my team? From what? Marauders at the gate? This is a sports team in 2005, not innocent villagers being subjected to pillaging in the middle ages.

It's interesting that your signature contains the information that you were banned from spursreport. From what I heard, you were banned because you continually showed a complete and total lack of respect for the Spurs on one of their own fan boards... Is that where you were hearing "queens, queens, queens" all the time? Sometimes what you hear is totally dependent upon where you are at the time.

Sometimes the truth hurts. Right now, the truth is that the current roster of Kings has nothing to show they're elite... or cellar dwellers ... or anything in between. They have only three players left from 2003. They have a lot of work to do and some games to win before they can logically be called contenders for anything other than the middle of the pack.

Peace.

Very well said VF. I hear my team called the "Fakers" and "Slackers" all the time...so what. This has been going on for years...so what. Entire arenas chant "BEAT L.A." and have for decades...so what.

In fact, dring the WCF 2002, even some local tv newscasters called them the "Fakers" which surprised me but actually made me laugh because I thought it was so juvenile of them..and yes, they need to get new material. Did I like it?..no, but it didn't push any of my buttons or make me mad or defensive.

Personally, I don't care if people like, love or hate my team..I just know that I've been supporting them for 30+ years and even a season like last year doesn't change that one bit. I bleed purple and gold and will until I'm as "old as dirt"..right VF? ;) (You know I love ya.)

hoopsfan - The colors of the uniforms and the names on them may not be the same but I know deep down we share a love for the game itself that transcends whatever the differences are between us. Of course, during the season I may have to resort to my "Die, Laker scum!" chant but you know it's not personal.

;)

BTW, old as dirt isn't bad. It's when you actually pre-date dirt that you know you're old!

Hearing "BEAT L.A." should be a good thing, right? I mean its a thing of hatred from other fans, but it also means they fear you. Being feared is sometimes better than being respected. People respect the above average teams, but they fear the real great ones.
I can't even count how many people I knew growing up that hated the bulls cause they feared them. Same goes for players as well. All the people that claim they hate someone like jordan just fears him.
Whatevers, this topic is getting played out anyways.

"Pre-date dirt"... :D Good one! I don't think you're that much older than me??

Why, bless your heart.

I was in high school when Kennedy (John) was assassinated.

Being called the Queens doesn't bother me at all. I believe Shaq was the one to dubb us, I don't remember him calling the Spurs or Wolves or Mavs by any derogatory names. The Queens were a threat to his dynasty team and everybody knew it.

Ummmmm, ok...I stand corrected. :o (I was only 7 months old when JFK was killed.)
I guess you just don't look that old.;)
