Does this mean we can still sign the chuckwagon ASAP? I sure hope so, god knows we need him badly. My apologies if this has already been posted/reported.

Reps: Chuck Hayes has no heart issue

Chuck Hayes, whose contract was voided by the Sacramento Kings after he failed a physical, was cleared by doctors from the Cleveland Clinic after a series of heart tests, according to a statement from Hayes' public-relations representatives.

Hayes sought "exhaustive testing and exams" at the clinic after a stress echocardiogram conducted last week by the team showed an abnormality. The Kings subsequently announced that the four-year, $21.3 million deal Hayes signed earlier this month was voided after he failed his team physical.

The statement from Hayes' representatives said the Cleveland Clinic's doctors told the 28-year-old that he did not have a heart problem, and "their recommendation is that he can continue to play professional basketball without any concerns."

Hayes' preference is to play with Sacramento, a source told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard.

The 6-foot-6 free agent averaged 3.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in six seasons with the Houston Rockets. He had a career-best 7.9 points and 8.1 rebounds last season, playing nearly 30 minutes a game after the retirement of Yao Ming.

"I'm just very thankful and blessed with the team of doctors at the Cleveland Clinic and the power of prayer. I am happy to say I have a healthy heart and have been cleared to play immediately," Hayes said in the statement. "I look forward to getting back on the court as soon as possible."

Information from ESPN The Magazine senior writer Chris Broussard and The Associated Press was used in this report.

Nice! For some reason, I had a feeling that it was a false alarm. Hoping he will sign another contract with the Kings now to give us some rebounding and defense. I was just about to waive him in one of my fantasy leagues too, so good timing on the article :p

Thanks. yes things seemed pretty grim for us the past few days. Good for him and his family. Now only if I had Petrie's email, I would forward this to him ASAP!!!!! GET ON IT GEOFF!! This would be huge for our overall morale if this could still happen. Bad things can't continue to happen to great fans like ours.

You got him once, so go out and do it again. I was so-so about this signing the first time, but after watching this young team struggle in two preseason games, I think his veteran presence is a must have. At the very least his interior D is needed badly.

Have we botched this one up or what?!

Watch us now bidding against other teams and paying him more than we did the first time around because we couldn't do the testing properly!

I don't see that happening.
We basically offered an MLE-type deal to him. I don't think there are many teams under the cap that can offer significantly more, so if we re-sign him, it won't be much more than a MLE offer, which is right in the ball-park of the original deal.

I also want to note that if we are considering bringing him back, I wonder how the AK situation is impacting that. If they think they have a shot at AK, it could hold-up a re-signing of Hayes until they work out all the numbers.

Don't think it will impact the AK situation at all. If Chuck comes back for for his original price that still leaves them about 10$ million under that cap. i doubt they'd go over 10$ million to sign AK in any case. The offer the gave him was for like 8$ million.

He's coming back. Problem solved although I want to see the signature on the contract given what Daly told us. Nah, Hayes is not Daly.

As to AK, I suspect we have no chance at him considering we couldn't pay him what he might want. I sure would take him if he wanted to sign but then we have Outlaw/Salmons/AK plus Green and Cisco (did I miss someone?). I am VERY concerned about Salmons reaction to coming off the bench unless we decide to start him even if AK was here. I suspect in the years since he was last here, he has matured a little or the FO wouldn't want him. That assumes good judgment on the part of the FO. Ack!

I wouldn't hold up signing Hayes for anything. I think he is more valuable to our team as it is now structured and I think we have jerked Hayes around enough.

I agree. It looks like Kings are ready to sign him but his agent says he won't be ready to put his name to a new contract until after Xmas. Maybe Chuck justs wants to take a few days deep breath (who can blame him!) and also have his agent talk to a few other teams. I assume even if he got an offer from another NBA team it would be same or similar to what Kings previously inked him too - and we'd at least match it. I think it's about 99% he will be back in the fold as a new King, just not in time for Xmas.

And what a burst of optimism it would bring. Miracles do come true! haha. The team was down about this, even had Chucks jersey hanging on the door before the last game, this would be a HUGE boost to this team just from the perspective of mindset.
