I'm pretty sure Wendell Maxey just accused the Nets of a free agency rules violation, although it of course all makes sense.

Yes, it makes sense. Also, as much a he would solve problems for us, FAs don't come here. This is a fact and until whatever it is that needs to be settled is settled, it will always be so. I think it has more to do with ownership than cowbells. For those who have forgotten, the last FA to sign here of consequence was Vlade and that may have had as much to do with the fact we were in California than anything else. If I recall correctly, his wife never moved with him to Charlotte and she stayed behind in LA. The next significant FA to sign here was Hayes and he grew up in Modesto and simply was coming home. Didn't cost much and didn't offer much although the book hasn't been closed on him. He's a real pro and had a rough year. I think he will come back doing the best he can. But I digress......

Glenn is right

The only FA's we will land will be either hometown kids, shunned players, or unless we obscenely overpay for somebody, which we all know isn't going to happen given the financial condition of our pathetic owners.

Makes me nervous about throwing a fat offer at Ryan Anderson. Ugh. He's ok but not what we need.

As for the Maloofs/Arena, it's killing any hope of attracting a FA. Our best bet will probably be others wanting to comes play with an all world center in a couple years. But given the uncertainty of this franchise, there are no promises Cuz sticks around long term and puts up with this crap. But I do think he is our best bet at FA's. Not Petrie, not money, not our coach. But then again, no one great went to Orl to play with D12, and no one great went to Cle to play with Lebron, so even the level Cuz gets to in a couple years, and even if we're a playoff club, it still might not be enough.

BTW, I wish Chuck was not from Modesto and did not sign. Looks like all he did after get the contract was visit every fast food joint between Sac and the valley.

Hey hey hey now, Lebron actually had a few decent players go to Cleveland: Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams, Ben Wallace, Larry Hughes, oh and that O'Neal guy too. D12 has had a few too...Vince Carter, Rashard Lewis, Hedo, Q Richardson.

Edit: on an unrelated note, just thumbing through the basketball reference...the LA Lakers franchise has only missed the playoffs 5 times in its entire existence since 1948-49. *sigh*
